Yes, they have that little rubber plug on the bottom, but if you read the literature it's part of the design. It lets cold and hot air in and out as necessary to balance the pressure between the glass layers and keeps it from fogging up and possibly breaking. Makes perfect sense to me. I have run these through the dishwasher a few times and no problems. We are careful AS THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY to not cram them tight between stuff in the dishwasher. That little rubber plug thing probably keeps the pressure perfect so the glasses survive just fine. The instructions DO NOT tell you NOT to put them in the dishwasher. I use these for espresso but may also use them for small freezer cold alcoholic beverages in the future. They would be perfect for both.
