This happened with two 4 lb kittens ! A 25 lb. dog would put even more stress on the handle and closing mechanism. A 25 lb. animal needs a very sturdy carrier and this is not it. **Q: Can I attach a strap?** A: Attaching a strap would be unpractical. The carrier can be bulky carrying it over your shoulder. It's probably easier putting it on wheels; then strap it with a belt for securing the carrier. **Q: Is this airline approved?** A: No, the Amazon basic kennels would not be approved for airline travel; I have the 40in size I use at home for my GSDs and have flown lets overseas in cargo and in cabin. Kennels for airline travel must be zip tied in the corners, and use metal caps with screws to hold the kennel together. It must also have a single door that can be zip tied closed on 2-4 corners. (Another tip: most airlines will not allow metal air vents either and they need to be part of the plastic, like this carrier has). The plastic is also not very sturdy so while fine for casual home use, I would not use this for airline travel even if it had all of the above. **Q: Are the measurments from the outside or inside?** A: 15" high, 13" wide, 23" long -- i'm just going by the product description on this page, i don't have one. I purchased this two-toned gray crate as a new product and received it as such. I would have immediately returned if it had been used or damaged. I assembled without any problems. The crate made with medium heavy plastic on 1/2 sides down, back and bottom with 4” inserted wire windows into plastic sections which secured the safety of the crate even more. I observed no exposed wire ends around the three inserted wire windows. The front gate seemed heavy duty and sturdy and was installed without problems. I placed the crate back on the floor and easily installed all four corner wires into designated holes at the same time for a safe/secure fit. I appreciated these holes were built up above the level of the top for added security fit.My dog weighs approx 10-11lbs. She is a small mixed dachshund/chihuahua. I would not recommend a larger dog or cat because I observed a strain on the top of gate when I carried her inside. The top of the crate would stretch and cause the gate wires to come out of their designated holes. The door could not be opened until I lifted the crate with her inside again and easily returned the gate wires to their designated holes. I would not recommend forcing the gate for fear of breaking the plastic holes or bending the gate door. I appreciate the door can be opened on either the left or right side. I appreciate the dual plastic locking devices…arthritic fingers. I would not recommend carrying a pet inside this crate for a long length of time. I suggest making the end door wires a bit longer so a bolt can be screwed to each wire end for added stability when the plastic crate pulls away from the gate wires.I bought this crate for safety while on short trips, shopping, distress alleviating exercises and while I vacuum and mop. She is terrified of all common home noises and mortified of being outside either with me or fear of being left outside alone.My little dog was one of a dozen small dogs living their entire lives in a small wire cage OUTSIDE in a horrible hoarding situation. Her dew claws are permanently damaged due to being caught in the floor wires and broken away from her foot bone.After a week of seeing this crate, short entries (all while holding the carrier) she now enters it on her on and rests peacefully. The bottom is sturdy and safe and all wire window inserts pose no threat to her safety and allows her to see me from all sides of the crate as I move around her.I did not need instructions to assemble this crate. 15 mins total. Price point is unbeatable for the sturdiness, size, and material. It’s very, very spacious. I really like the ventilation holes on the sides to prevent from any paws coming through - that being said some cats may fit their paws through the door squares. It is extremely sturdy, I really like that it comes with bolts for extra security in addition to the four latches. It’s a bit tight to screw the bolts into the nuts but once you’ve got it, be sure to extra tighten with a screwdriver. It has two doors for ease of use, especially useful for animals who refuse to go in through the front door or for animals who may not be keen to coming out the front at vet visits. The top door allows easy access. The bottom seems like it may be slippery so I am considering a small mat or pet bed to make it comfier for my cat. I have purchased this and assembled it in advance for an upcoming vet appointment. Hoping to leave it out and open so as my cat can adjust to seeing and being around it to avoid as much trouble as possible when appointment day comes. Assembly is fast and easy, instruction manual is helpful if you get stuck. I was stumped on how to open the top. I have attached a small clip to show. You rotate one of the top bar latches, pull it out and up while it’s pulled out. Either side works, so the top can be opened left or right bar. There are also attachments for carrier belts/straps which is not a necessity for me, but I’m sure is useful for many others. My cat has broken out of two pet carriers (both fabric based), and has refused endlessly to going into a smaller plastic one with only a front opening.
