You can apply a wider range of voltage though, just affects how quickly it heats up and longevity of the wire. I've used some of these for "off-label" projects before with 6V or 12V 2A power adapter to good effect. It is meant for use with industrial type plastic sealing machines which usually have clamps or covers holding these in place. You can find the adhesive type by searching for "ptfe adhesive tape". The element would not heat. It lasted 7 years.! No parts from manufacturer. The were happy to sell me a new model for $200. Bought this heating element, minor modification for length and it worked great. You will need to buy 1/2 Teflon tape though. The tape that comes with the elements does not have an adhesive.
