I think when the stuff inside starts to unthaw it settles down to the bottom and you refreeze them straight up and down it expands at the bottom and there's the bulge so I would laying it flat when refreezing hope that helps **Q: Are they non toxic, says they are non toxic in description, but one that i have at home, says avoid contact with skin.??? which is it. thank you.** A: If I have one break open, I throw it away. **Q: What material are these made from?** A: I believe some kind of polyurethane, they are really thick. Too obvious? I'm sure they're fine in mobile applications. I use them walking to the store for frozen goods.My BEST use is as auxiliary cooling for the refrigerators. Electricity rates rise, but we already know we're in for a 13-20 percent increase this summer. These packs 1. Help A LOT after loading in new groceries and bringing them down to temperature noticeably faster, AND 2. Providing your fridge with some real power assistance on the hottest days. You're running the freezer anyway. You're using the refrigeration energy twice! You rotate these to keep frozen ones in the fridge. And the fridge doesn't work as hard, cooling down more at night. I've never had one crack open, even dropping a frozen one on the floor. Yeah, they might freeze with a bulge, but that tells me I have a really cold pak. Mass.
