Everyone used to use them. If you have thick hair this is the best kind of brush because it can get through to your hair to detangle it and through to your scalp to stimulate your hair follicles. Boar bristle brushes are just too soft to get through thick hair. I’m almost 70 years old and this is the only kind of brush that can get through my still thick hair and the only one I can use to style my hair. This is because it kind of knits the hair strands together where plastic tipped bristles act more like combs and separate the strands. Having said all that, this is not the best quality brush. It works ok but not the quality of some of my older brushes I still have from twenty years ago. The brand I used to buy was made by Goody. Also Fuller Brush used to make good nylon bristle brushes. Not sure if amazon sells those brands or you can type in fullerbrush nylon bristle brushes or Goody nylon bristle brush and see if you can find them still. They are slightly stiffer than natural boar bristles. I have very long very straight hair and find it perfect. **Q: Is this a travel size or regular size brush?** A: This is a full size brush **Q: Is this a half round brush and about what is the length of the bristle?** A: No., I would call it a 3/4 round. It lacks about 1/4/" on each side from being a full 1/2 round. The bristles are 3/4" long. This is a very stiff bristle brush. Once you get used to it you will love it.
