Review: Easy on the eyes and truly wonderful coffee - Would have given 4.5 stars. Easy on the eyes and truly wonderful coffee, but some important weaknesses. Strengths: One of only a small handful of coffee makers that meets the demanding standards of the SCAA. It really does make amazing coffee. Would give it 6 stars for that if I could. And it's beautiful. At the intersection of Technology and Art. I'd give it 6 stars for that as well. True, the Bonavita's are great coffee making machines, but did they have to make them so ugly? They have all the aesthetics of Soviet-era factory equipment. Weaknesses. Maximum volume brewed is 40 oz. That's only makes 6.5 standard (6 oz) cups of coffee. The way they claim it to be an 8 cup coffee maker is by dropping the cup size down to 5 oz. So be warned. Second - amount of coffee it makes when you select a small number of cups to brew various TREMENDOUSLY depending on how much water you put in the reservoir. Asking for 2 cups when the reservoir is filled up to the 3-cup line yields 10 oz of fluid, filling it up to the 8-cup line yields 17 oz. That's a BIG difference. Lastly, the basket for holding grounds is really too small for even their downsized 8 cups. The bloom created during the initial wetting. tends to overflow when "8 cups" are brewed. Using a coarser grind helps prevent this, but KitchenAid really needs to address this issue in R&D. Still, I forgive all these faults because it does make a great cup of coffee. And it's beautiful, to boot.
Review: Good coffee, poor design. But the only option for a pour-over flavor with a timer, so I like it. - First things first: the coffee is delicious. I love pour-over, but with a toddler and a job, its too much for the morning routine. So, I bought this just over a year ago (June 2016). If your goal is to get good flavor from your coffee while still keeping the convenience of an automatic machine that you can set the night before, this is basically the only option on the market, and its good for that. But, there are several serious design flaws that I hope KitchenAid will rectify in a future edition: 1) Condensation. The unit is wet basically all the time and never dries out. 2) Setting for number of cups is pointless - I leave mine at 8 cups all the time and just add however much water I want to use. Further, due to the pour-over process, you lose about 0.5-1 cup of water just in the brewing process. 3) Menu is convoluted and includes too many steps to set a timer. 4) Basket is *just* big enough for a full 8 cups worth of grounds, and the filter clip is useless, I removed it. 5) Markings on the buttons have rubbed off after 1 year, good thing I remember what they said. My family combined this with a Krups burr grinder that you can set to a specific amount of grounds, at a specific coarseness. Once I found the right balance of water volume to grounds, its a great system. Just hit the button on the grinder to a preset amount, pour water into the unit, fill basket with filter and grounds and set the timer...then wake up to perfect coffee. If I was planning to change the amount of cups I want or the time I want to brew each day, this thing would drive me nuts. As it is, it works for us.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best dang cup of coffee this side of the Mississippi.
*by R***N on June 18, 2015*

Reading through the reviews makes me see that some people are just way too picky. There is absolutely no problems with this coffee maker. Actually it produces the best cup of coffee you could ever imagine brewing at home. It does not take as long as some say. It takes about 7 mins to fully brew a full 8 cup pot. About the same as a regular auto drip maker. I use good quality fresh ground coffee beans and melitta brand #4 natural cone filters. I fill the coffee filter to the dots it tells me to and it produces some of the best tasting coffee I have made at home ever! Even better than some coffee shop coffees. This maker was well worth it. I have no regrets or gripes. I would buy it all over again and one everytime I would have to replace it.
