Had one of these before I got these two that lasted my almost 30 years. I love them.Morris **Q: A lot of people who owned this grinder for many years say it no longer works well and lasts. Have the materials and construction changed?** A: this pepper mill is an excellent product. it works well and I like it. **Q: So do you need separate ones for salt and pepper or does it hold both at the same time?** A: It's just for pepper. Need salt grinder for salt **Q: tell me please is it good for any other spices? does it grind till the pepper is like flour?** A: I'm not sure why people think this has no settings - inside the mill there is a grooved wheel (see the picture showing it with the top off). Turn the wheel all the way in one direction until it stops - that's the coarsest grind (quite coarse - great for coating meats/veggies to grill or when you want some "crunch" to your pepper. Turn it all the way the other direction and it'll grind it into a very fine powder (maybe not quite "flour", but the grain is very fine at the highest setting). It should be able to grind about any spice that's not too large - I doubt a nutmeg would work, but anything slightly larger than a peppercorn or smaller should be fine (cumin, etc.). ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Grinder *by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2014* I was given a white PepperMate mill 35 years ago. I have used it everyday and several times a day for pepper grinding. This grinder is incredible, it is still working like new, never a problem. This has been a great product and worked well and produces a large quantity of pepper with just a few turns of the relatively large knob. The catcher allows you to measure or perhaps have a little on hand.I don't adjust the grind that often, there is an internal adjustment knob and while it's not the best design, it certainly gets the job done. They grind coarse and less coarse with little effort and I like the plastic bottom which you can grind into and measure out what you need. My husband thinks they're okay but not great. I think he's just pissed off because I threw the old ones in the recycling bin.
