A tale of love, not sex
Anyone buying this film should be clear that it is not primarily about eroticism. There are sex scenes in it, and quite a lot of flesh is exposed, but this is not designed to titillate but rather illustrate what part physical love plays in emotional relationships. The story, about a servant woman's journey to self knowledge, is a fairly simple one. The settings look authentic and the costuming is very good. In her first film Indira Varma provides a still, beautiful centre to the drama. Well worth watching if you want something which is as much about philosophy of life as about the pleasures of the flesh.

The best Indira Varma film ever.
This is without doubt the best Indira Varma film ever made. It shows just how amazing an actress she is. This was made when she was still quite young but she steals every scene with her her acting and sheer beauty. Indira went on to become an even more awesome actress working in other big ventures including working in BBC dramas and becoming one of Britain's best talents. I have been a fan of hers for many years so I may have a bias but this is a must have film.
