I bought them to replace 2 shattered bulbs that left glass on the lawn. With 2 kids who love to be out in the garden whenever the sun is out, I feel much better having these installed. I'll likely replace all of the glass bulbs I have installed in the festoon lights as these are much safer. The light that is given off is exactly the same as the bulbs they're replacing.
