The flip top is a little flimsy and I’m sure several students will tear it up in no time. However, the sharpener piece fits nicely into the bottom and should be sufficient for holding in shavings. IT SHARPENS REALLY WELL! I tried it on a black Ticonderoga pencil (my fave) and it was almost dangerously sharp. I also tried it on a cheap pencil and a cheaper colored pencil; all great results. I have about 10 sharpeners that were $3-5 each that are horrible so I was very pleased with these! They will not hold a lot of shavings, but they will be great for students to sharpen a broken pencil in class.
