Review: Quality Hickory walking stick/hiking stick I am 81 and it helps my balance by James N - Brazos Rustic Wood Walking Stick, Hickory, Traditional Style Handle, for Men & Women, Made in The USA, 58" WOW, I chose hickory as it is a strong wood and it has weight. I went against the stick height for my 5ft 7in height, instead I went with the 58in. I like that the stick goes above my normal hand reach. I had purchased my wife a walking stick at a hospital gift shop and it was ok for her, but I wanted something more sturdy and taller. I would have had a metal point on the end with a rubber cap over it but, I am happy. I would buy the same stick again. It cast more but worth it to me, it is more stick, Sturdiness is awesome, I just grip the stick where it feels comfortable. I very much like my stick has the top rounded off, no Sharpe edges some sticks have by cut off leaving top Sharpe. The good craftsman for this stick polished the stick so no rough edges. i highly recommend this vendor.

But once I took a good look at it and held it in my hands, it became more than just a "stick". It is truly a fine work of craftsmanship. I don't care if it took the person who made it a few minutes, or a few days to finish it, this walking stick is a damn fine piece of work! It's got some weight to it, but it's not TOO heavy, so you know it's a young or "new" creation. It feels and sounds STRONG and flexes when you strike it on the ground, which means it's not going to snap in two the first time you need to fend off a charging Rotweiller or Meth-head. It's not as light as my short knob ash CANE, therefore not as fast, (it will require a bit of a change in training or tactics), but I very much like the fact that whatever kind of creature(s) I am confronting will be held at a much longer distance, giving me just a bit more reaction time. Since I'm getting older, that means more than it used to. But the best part is that I can already feel that it will greatly benefit my posture after only a short walk! My short cane was good for support, especially when I get a bit dizzy after taking my BP meds, but it left my back sore because I tended to lean to one side when using the cane. This "staff", or "walking stick", forces me to walk much more upright and my back feels all the better for it! (I think I like the term "walking stick" since I consider a "staff" to be taller than I am, as Little John might have carried in the Robin Hood tales, but I digress...) Bottom line is that I could not have picked out a better "walking stick" myself, nor could I have made one this nice without going to a great deal of expense in time and effort. Well worth every penny! Well done, Brazos! I'll be back for more. These will make great gifts. You can't go wrong with something so well crafted and individually beautiful. **Q: Does anyone ever use two of these walking sticks?**

**Q: shipping weight says 4.2oz, is this a typo? Can this wood stick really weigh 4oz???**
A: It might be a typo, I figure it's around a pound, maybe a tad less. Still regardless, for people that don't like canes this is well worth it. Plus you have the added security if someone wants to mess with you. I kinda live in a bad place and when I have to walk somewhere near home, it's nice to have this along, regardless of it's dogs or people. Don't know if I'd use it for mountain lions though (LOL).

**Q: I have some Neuropathy in my feet and need some help with walking.  In your opinion, would this help?**
A: I have MS and my neurologist suggested a walking stick rather than a cane when I'm having walking issues, including neuropathy in my feet. I had been using a cane prior to my neurologist's suggestion. So I ordered a walking stick. Personally I find the walking stick more helpful than a cane because I feel more comfortable and secure with it than I do a cane. I am 5'2" short and I ordered a 48" walking stick. Hope this helps!

**Q: Can you add a metal tip at the bottom?**
A: Yes, a metal tip can be added. However, it does take a bit of woodworking skills to install a metal tip on this stick.
