### ⭐ Misleading- Not coarse, not 100-200 grit

*by A***R on November 19, 2019*

Grits between different types of stones or rods can all differ slightly. A 1500 grit fine ceramic rod may not be the same as a 1500 grit whetstone for instance. But they should in fact perform similarly. So when I directly asked about the grit of this & if another website saying what Idahone claims is between 100 & 200 grit is around the equivalent of an 800 grit stone is correct & Idahone says no it is between 100 & 200 grit it is absolutely false. They may be correct in saying that it's nearly as "hard" as a diamond rod but it does not remove material anywhere near being considered almost as "hard" as a diamond rod. Or even close to 600 grit much less 100 or 200. Diamond rods are known to remove metal almost too quickly & this is nothing like that. This is slightly more coarse than a fine grit white ceramic rod when running a knife on it but it still only slightly hones. If your knife isn't already nearly fully sharp this is going to do next to nothing. You could use this to replace a fine rod & you wouldn't notice any difference. This is simply not going to remove more material than any other regular cheap ceramic rod. So calling it coarse or 100-200 grit is a flat out lie. They may say they're not claiming that but they're misleading wording is saying this is nearly what you would get out of a diamond rod. 100-200 grit no matter what material it's made of will remove tons of metal almost instantly. If its coarse it should be removing metal & hopefully getting rid of small nicks & dings & forming a burr. This rod does none of that. I would feel like I was overcharged even if this were $20 considering it's not much better than what is considered a fine ceramic rod I got right here on Amazon for less than $11 that is about the same length but about three times as thick & works exactly the same. Not to mention this feels very light & cheap in comparison. But for $40 I would expect the manufacturer to at least not mislead someone by saying this is a coarse rod when it is anything but coarse. It is simply not 100 to 200 grit on any scale. I have a 240 grit stone that removes metal immediately & this simply won't do the same even after a half an hour. This feels closer to 1000 grit than anything else which will not do anything near what calling it "coarse" should be able to do. This doesn't even seem to be as coarse as a standard medium rod from a V sharpener or nearly as coarse as their very own V sharpener's pink rods. Now I understand why this is pretty much the only supposed "coarse ceramic rod" that isn't diamond-coated on the internet because no one else is going to mislead you knowing they're ripping you off. Do not buy this & instead buy any other regular white ceramic rod for as little as four times less than this because they're going to do the same thing. If you want to remove more metal that a standard ceramic rod this just isn't going to work any better than any other rod. Their claims of grit and coarseness are completely false.Knowing what I know now I wish I would have just bought their actual coarse/fine V sharpener for around the same price with pink & white rods & gotten it over with since those pink rods are actually really coarse & will remove metal like they're supposed to. Now I have a $40 rod that is no better than the $10 one I already had. Total rip-off. Too bad the world is not fair or I would demand they send me one of those sets for free after charging me the same amount for this thing that does next to nothing.
