Let me tell you, I have tried various paint brands (from apple barrel to liquitex) and each time I redid the paint, it cracked and peeled and had to be redone. I was skeptical about putting in even more money on new paint for the shoes but u have worn them several times outside and there isn't a single crack in the paint! they seem to be holding up and I wish I had just spent the money in the first place. Angelus brand leather paints allow mixing of colors and I ended up mixing Pearlescent Rose Gold, metallic silver, and hot pink. I wish I had used less pink and silver because the rose gold looks much better in person than pictured. The final repaint of these boots consisted of using their deglazer, mixing a bottle of paint of ONLY Angelus brand leather paints, and then once dried I covered it with 2 or 3 coats of Angelus glitterlite candy pink glitter (it looks more red than pink in person, in my opinion) and then finished with one of angelus' acrylic finishers. How will I know that the rubber is ready for the leather dye?** A: I really can't say. I would try it on some rubber sole shoes you don't care about. I research it a bit too. On leather once you clean off the area you want to paint it is ready to go I think. It drys really fast.
