It also provides a much warmer and slightly darker tone than the mouthpiece that came with my 1951, Olds "Special" cornet (which was a bit too trumpety sounding). The lower register with this mouthpiece is simply amazing! A deep, full and rich low register and a nice, mellow singing voice in the upper register. I'm also finding it much easier to reach the high notes with this mouthpiece. I've been playing on a Denis Wick 1C on my trumpet for over a decade, and this 2B cornet MP, is the perfect complement when switching from trumpet to cornet. This 2B MP has given me a greater appreciation for my cornet and I will be playing it much more frequently. Upon receiving it, I slapped it on my Yamaha student Cornett, and it just made a world of difference. Completely changed the sound. It now sounds like a cornet. That classic British full rounded smooth sound. I also play the trumpet and I have Monette mouthpieces, and this Dennis Wick mouthpiece is my new favorite. I bought it to replace the standard Yamaha mouthpiece for my 12-year-old, who plays in band. He also noticed right away how easy it is to play. Much easier than the Yamaha that came with it because this one has such a deep cup. It just sounds so great and the feel of it is extremely solid. I highly recommend getting one of these if you play cornet. I’m also going to find a trumpet mouthpiece from Wick as soon as possible. Updated: my 12-year-old son has played this thing about 5X as he was before with the terrible Yamaha stock mouthpiece. Thanks to this mouthpiece he sounds amazing. It’s just so much easier to play and it sounds so much better.
