    Great bed for the price.

This is a great bed for the price. Shorter than the average full size bunk bed and less wide. Since space was at a in our premium at our extra small bedroom, I ordered this bed and I wasn't disappointment.Packaging arrived and many solid metal parts fell out when opening the box. At first it was a bit intimidating but I only needed help once from my wife to hold the pieces and even that probably I could had done solo. One of the 4 metal bars was slightly bent but it is not a big deal. My 10 year old boy loves his new bed. So here are the pros and cons for the shoppers:Pro:- Great value for the money. I recommend it to any one.- Great and Solid table under the bunk bed.- Solid design and sturdy metal- Shorter than the average height of beds which helps the bunk bed to be farther from ceiling- Ladder on both ends of the bedCons:- Bed is a bit wobbly compared to wooden bunk beds. No big deal though. No threat of it tipping over. But my son was a bit concerned so I just secured 2 sides of the bid with zipties to 2 wall hooks and it is less wobbly now.- As I was putting the bed together, 4 times (I kid not) I had to go backward, unscrew the pieces several steps backward and re-screw them because they were backward. Even near the end the whole bed was almost done but table pieces couldn't fit because some pieces were backward. There was no arrows on the pieces, direction could had gone eitherway, and picture diagrams were as usual drawn by 4 year olds for 8 year olds (though how an 8 years old can put this bed together is beyond me). A few well placed notches here and there on metal parts could had provided front/back siding to parts and prevented this hassle but I have electric screw driver with hex bits so it wasn't quiet as bed. But buyer be warned. besides these kinds of things still happen even with the mighty IKEA so thats the life of do it yourself assembly.- The ladder rungs are a bit on the skinny side and were hurting my son's foot on climbs. So I got foam from homedepot for water pipe insulation ($2.67) and covered all the steps. Would be nice if manufacturer made steps a bit fatter so they won't hurt foot when climbing.- The ladder rungs go all the way to the top. This I believe is a design flaw. A kid that is old enough to actually climb to the top won't fall off if there is an opening at one or both ends. You only need railing on the sides. As you see from the picture, I cut off about half of the end metals from one side: basically the last 3 rungs. Now my sons feet can stick out (when he gets older) and he doesn't have to climb the last 3 steps. I suppose manufacturer could had put some sort of latch door but I think my design is better and they should copy my approach. ;)- All the cons combined merit one star deduction otherwise its a pretty good bed.Sawing off the bed rungs: It is a pain to do it with hand and I ended up using an electric multitool, then my blade died with out me making much progress. I didn't want to go all handy man and user some sort of 15 amp power saw so I tried again with a new blade and it turned out that the wrongs are not super steel design. It turns out I was cutting at "soldering" ends and solder was way stronger than the rung metal!! So the lesson is if you want to cut, come out a whee bit forward and cut at the actual metal, then cover the result with foam and its good to go. If this whole approach bothers you that the bed is not super fancy, sorry there are only 2 solutions: 1) Use more powerful tools and power sander (I am not that handy) 2) buy wood frame bunk bed. Wood is a lot easier than cut/sand/paint etc. But hey for the price this bed still looks very good.

Pay close attention to the direction of the holes... You'll end up taking this thing apart 1000 times before you get it right otherwise. Its a bit wobbly even after tightening everything up with a cordless. The ladder rungs hurt kidlets feet. The desk is nice. Great for school work.
