Maybe mine originally had instructions, but now as far as I can tell it won't separate anywhere.** A: I don't believe these are for curtains, they stick to the fridge and you hang towels on it. They will stick to most metal appliances. **Q: How strong are the magnets?** A: Very strong. I did have a mini blind attached to it on a door and it never moved with the door opening and closing. **Q: Would this work well on my refrigerator to hold a dish towel (in terms of "pulling" on the towel to dry hands and also in terms of not scratching)?** A: Yes and I don't know. We use it to hold a hand towel which even works well enough for our rough young kids. It's on something more durable than a fridge though so I can't address the scratching. **Q: Can it hold a black out curtain-heavier than a sheer? Anyone know how much weight it will hold?** A: I'm not sure exactly how much weight it will hold but the curtain we used is between a sheer and a blackout roughly 4' long (Still needs to be shortened) and it holds fine. I just hung a towel on it as well and it was able to hold both the curtain and towel with ease. The magnets are super strong and don't slide down or around with their load. I tried a different brand of the same sort of product before - for about the same amount of money - and was not nearly as pleased with it. I am currently using two of these Skotz Manufacturing magnetic cafe rods to hold up some regular sheer curtain panels on my metal storm door, one at the top and one at the bottom. They're wonderfully accommodating. I didn't have to damage my door to add a curtain, nor did I have to buy a special type of curtain paneling. And the price is right. It does appear quite strong and I am hoping that it will be strong enough that it won't move while pulling on a pull string to raise and lower a shade. I think that if it does then I'll apply a little silicone to the backs of the magnet. Time will tell as to how much of a strain that these magnets will tolerate. I bought it as a gift for my Mom and she absolutely loves it. I used them to hand sheers on my french doors (which are metal). The magnets are VERY STRONG. I had ordered WHITE but the color that arrived was ECRU (off-white/bisque)....but....I'm okay with that color too so I kept them........I used one rod at the top and one at the bottom of the door to hang/stretch the sheers and it looks fantastic. The magnetic rod stays secure even when I open/close the door....no problem.
