## Description

desertcart.com For those who cook large quantities of food, FoodSaver vacuum packaging systems offer excellent protection against food spoilage and freezer burn. This jar sealer attachment fits on wide-mouth mason jars and is for use with any FoodSaver machine that has an accessory port. The top forms a tight seal on mason jars while the tubing removes air from the jar with the help of a FoodSaver machine. The jar sealer works equally as well in packaging liquid foods, such as jams or chocolate sauces, as it does for dry goods, such as brown sugar or spices. While vacuum packaging is not a substitute for traditional canning methods, it does keep food fresh three to five times longer than keeping it in a plastic food storage container in the refrigerator. Plastic air tube not included. --Cristina Vaamonde Product Description For those who cook large quantities of food, FoodSaver vacuum packaging systems offer excellent protection against food spoilage and freezer burn. Review: Must have for all FoodSaver vacuum system users - Hello FoodSavers, I thought of creating this video for all of those who have several doubts in their mind before purchasing this product (Note: Video doesn't have audio). I know this because I had several doubts in my mind, like; -Which jars are suitable for this sealer and does it really work? Answer: Mason Jars are suitable for this sealer. I am using Ball Mason Jars (Pint size) and they work great with this sealer. -Will it work for moist/wet items including liquids? Answer: Yes it does work for moist and wet items like prepared pasta or any type of sauce. I haven't tried liquids but it should work. -Can I remove it once fixed on the Jar or I have to purchase one per each Jar? Answer: Yes, you can remove the sealer from mason jars once sealed like shown in the video. This is the great thing I liked about this product. Food saver cum money saver. -Which jar to buy and where? And will it cost me more as the FoodSaver bags? Answer: Any mason jar should be good according to the type of mouth. But Ball Mason Jar works for me. They are available on desertcart but I got it from Walmart. I got pint sized wide mouth jars, a pack of 12 for $8.5. -What is Regular mouth and Wide mouth sealers and are jars available in these type of mouths? Answer: Two types of mason jars are available in the market which are compatible with these sealers. Though keep in mind this review is for Wide-mouth jar sealer. So if you have purchased wide mouth jar sealers you will need wide mouth mason jars and for regular mouth jars purchase the regular mouth sealer. -Are jars and lids/bands reusable? Yes, all components are reusable. That's the great thing about Mason jars and this sealer. -How much is a Pint or a Quart? 1 Pint = 16oz = 0.47 liters 1 Quart = 32oz = 2Pint = 0.95 liters -How can I know that the jar is really vacuumed? When you place the lid on the jar and then vacuum it using this sealer, vacuum pressure is generated within the sealer and it sucks all the air out (also from the jar and the area above the lid) and so it tightens the seal firmly over the jar. At this moment if you remove the tube from the sealer you would hear a sound, this is because the air enter the hole immediately as soon as you remove the tube. Try pulling the lid and you may have to apply force to remove it. This indicates the jar has been vacuum sealed. -How to remove the lid once it's sealed tight and frozen? If you have frozen contents in the vacuumed jar sometimes it would be difficult for you to open the lid. There are chances that you may damage the lid. To avoid this either keep the jar in warm water for few minutes or hold the jar under hot water tap for few seconds. Hurray... enjoy your food :). Though be careful while holding the jar under hot water as you don't want yourself to get any burns. This product is a must buy as FoodSaver bags are expensive and cannot hold wet/moist items (like sauce or wet pasta). Hope this helps. Note: I am using it since couple of weeks now, so do not forget to read the user manuals and use your vacuum machine accordingly. I created this video to clear doubts in people's mind so that they can purchase this product willingly. Cheers... Update May 9th 2012 11:59AM EST - I am very pleased with this product. I have stored Pasta, Thai Curries, Asian Curries and also Indian Curries in Mason jars using this sealer. They taste almost the same even after 5 to 6 weeks. Saves hell lot of money but also time which is the important. I never thought I would use my vacuum system the way am using it currently. Even you can prepare soup and store it for several weeks/months. Though keep in mind that most of the product after vacuuming needs refrigeration. So place it according to the items suggested in your vacuum system manual. I wonder how people can give 1 star for such an amazing product. I am loving it.
Review: Foodsaver Jar Sealers (Regular- and Wide-Mouth) and V3230 vacuum Sealer - Foodsaver v3230 and Jar Sealers The main reason I purchased a Foodsaver vacuum sealer was to be able to store my cats’ (my Boys’) dry food to help maintain freshness, since I spend extra money to buy a high quality food that loses its freshness and spoils quickly when not stored properly – and yes, it is dry food. Plus, I wanted to be able to store this food in glass containers. I found the Ball 1/2 gallon canning jars and am able to store the contents of an 18 pound bag of food in 8 of these jars using the Foodsaver wide-mouth jar sealer. It’s great! I wish I had known about all these contraptions before now – would have saved a lot of wasted food/money. I also store human food but started out buying it for my Boys’ food. I am so thankful for the reviews; many of the comments were very helpful! One person wrote that she thought she would have to use one jar sealer for each jar she used. That’s exactly what I thought. That would have been quite expensive and didn’t seem worth it to me – given that the wide mouth jar sealers are approx $10 and for some reason the regular mouth jar sealers I’ve found have been more than that. so, one jar sealer can be used over & over & over again along with the flat part of the lid of the canning jar. After vacuuming the air out and removing the jar sealer, I put on the screw-on band. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. When I 1st started using this machine, I was using it wrong and every time I tried to seal a 1/2 gallon jar using the wide mouth jar sealer, the machine would run for 2 minutes – every time. I just thought the 1/2 gallon required more vacuuming due to the amount of air in that size. Nope; it would also run two minutes on the smaller jars. Also, when I would try to take the jar sealer off, I had to be extremely careful so the lid of the canning jar didn’t come off with it - which it did in many cases using the wide mouth jar sealer and which it did every time when I used the regular mouth jar sealer. It was very aggravating. I was ready to return everything. On top of that, when I used the bags, no air was being vacuumed out, but it would seal. I knew something was wrong. That’s when I found the TurboedMX6 YouTube video. If you search the internet for Foodsaver v3230, one of the first links that I found that is listed is a YouTube video by TurboedMX6. This guy did a very nice job and went a long way to helping me use this machine properly. I highly recommend it. He didn’t talk about the jar sealers; he only talked about vacuum-sealing plastic bags, but the video helped me with both. In the video, when he turned the locking handle, it made a definitive sound, and I remembered that mine didn’t make that sound, because I didn’t turn it all the way; it kinda snaps into place. It’s amazing how everything finally worked after that. Air gets sucked out of the plastic bags now, and the jar sealer is absolutely fantastic. It vacuums the jars for 10-15 seconds. When it’s done making a lot of noise vacuuming, the “seal” light comes on, so I press cancel, because I’m not using the heat portion of the sealing process which is used to seal the plastic bags. I take the hose connection out of the jar sealer, and it makes a brief whoosh sound releasing any leftover air from the hose (something I also learned in another review). I never got any whooshing sounds before when the machine would run for 2 minutes. Now I can take the jar sealer off the jar without being hesitant or extra careful. that lid is on there so tight, it’s sometimes difficult to break the seal to open it again. That’s okay. I’d rather have that than to have to be extra gentle with it so I didn’t break the seal. I have bought several cases of many different sizes of the canning jars, and I have purchased extra food for my Boys to keep on hand. I also store food to take to work. I’m so happy with this investment of all these foodsaving products!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is $9.99 for just one sealer lid?**
A: It isn't a sealer lid. It is the attachment that makes the sealer lid seal to the jar.

**Q: Do these stay attached to the jsr you seal, or do they create a seal on the standard metal jar lid?**
A: The Foodsaver cap is removed from jar when seal/vac is complete. When removing the cap, give it a twist as your pulling the cap off. The blue seal inside the cap tends to come out if you don’t twist it.

**Q: can you store soups at room temperature using this or do they have to be frozen or refrigerated?**
A: I have never seen so much misinformation about a product submitted by people who have no knowledge whatsoever. Liquids can most definitely be stored using this sealer. For instance, a soup can be poured into a mason jar and filled TO THE FREEZE LINE ON THE BOTTLE. Yes, mason jars have a line on the bottle and its purpose is marked on the bottle. If, for example, you wish to store a soup for many months, the bottle of soup must be placed into a freezer. There are correct comments that this does not replace canning; foods that may be canned do not require refrigeration after canning; nevertheless, the life of a food can be extended by months by freezing in a mason jar. I use the 32 oz. mason jar for extending the life of Romaine lettuce, cole slaw, etc. Normally those products will not keep in the refrigerator drawers for two weeks but they do keep for that long and come out of the bottle just as fresh as off-the-shelf in the market.

**Q: Can you reuse the ball lids and vacuum seal with a lid more than once, or do the seal only until the first time it's opened?**
A: Yes you can. I have coffee sealed in mason jars, opened daily with the Brix Jarkey jar opener (on Amazon for $6.85). It is a plastic bottle/jar opener. I open the mason jar gently with it. Works great.

I have had this sealer and food saver for over 15 years. I have sealed so many jars and so many products with it. It’s very easy to use and seals every time. I wanted to try one of the small suction ones for travel. Unfortunately, I will just have to do with zip bags because this is too big a unit to travel with. The little ones don’t work at all don’t bother. This works really great.
