Review: Alternative Uses - As many said, this is not biderectional. It is meant for one computer and two monitors, but, as an alternate use, I reversed it and hooked up one monitor so that I can access two computers (not at the same time). The only caveat is that only one may be connected at a time. My laptop has HDMI and I had to get an HDMI/DVI adapter. The monitor is only DVI and VGA. My PC is DVI. I cannot have both cables connected at the same time. So yes, I still have to disconnect either PC or laptop in order for the monitor to work. But at least the cable makes it so that I don't have to keep turning my monitor on it's side to reach the connector. It is easier to connect and disconnect each DVI connection when it is at a distance from the monitor.

**Q: does this allow me to have two monitors side by side as an extension or just copy the same image?**
A: This will only allow you to mirror your monitor (just a copy of the same image). If that is what you want to do, here's a tip: I am using a pc running windows xp and I wanted to mirror the image to a tv. Using this product I have to have only the monitor plugged into this device when I start up my computer. Once the computer starts up, then I can plug the tv into the other plug on this device. Otherwise when the computer is starting up and trying to sense the monitor, it will sense both the monitor and the tv and get confused and then nothing will show up on either device. Hope this was helpful.

**Q: Can i connect a pc(dvi) and my ps4(hdmi) to connect to my monitor (dvi) by having this switch on the input of the monitor instead of the opposite way.**
A: To my knowledge, no you cannot. There is no way to toggle it between the two. It is designed for the dvi to be split outward, not inward.

**Q: Does this work in reverse? Can I connect 2 DVI sources to a single DVI monitor?**
A: Tried that, won't work. SITUATION: 2 separate DVI-D monitors, 2 separate computers with dual DVI-D outputs. Bought two splitters (StarTech), attached male end to each monitor (Asus 23.5 1920x1080 res.) Hooked up DVI-D cables to each splitter so that I could turn on one computer at a time and use both monitors WITHOUT HAVING TO MANUALLY SWITCH DVI-D CABLES EVERY TIME. RESULT: Bleed thru from one computer that was NOT powered up caused one or both monitors to switch on/off, the computer that was off even had the video card illuminated with partial power, (NOT a good thing as it may damage cards)!!!!BTW: I took apart one StarTech splitter in hopes of disabling/cutting one of the female connectors...WOW it is well made, perfectly shielded and manufactured!!	So this splitter will ONLY mirror the output for two separate monitors for one source, like having a large TV Mirroring whats on your computer monitor.  Cheers, MickeyMedic.

As many said, this is not biderectional. This is a bad product. The cord itself is only 9". However, end-to-end, it does measure 12.5". The end with two female inputs is big and bulky. It doesn't fit or look well sitting on a desk. I tried to use the single end (the male connector) on my monitor and it didn't fit correctly. The connector is large and I couldn't access the screws to secure a good connection. After soliciting the help of someone with very small fingers, we ensured that the connection was secure, and the image still wasn't stable. It ranged from pure static to a still image that every few seconds felt like it was going to destabilize into static. The pins don't look perfectly straight when compared to other DVI cords I have. Very disappointing product. Most reviews were poor but I thought I'd give it a try since I usually can get things to work. This cord isn't usable for me. I should return it...
