**Q: Are the hole actualy threaded?**
A: The holes on the left side are the drill sizes needed to make a 'thru hole', and the holes on the right are actually threaded holes, which can be used to check an unknown screw for thread size.

**Q: Do you like these better than the plastic type?**
A: Don't waste your money on plastic. Another advantage, besides durability, is with fine thread you can easily damage plastic by cross threading or inserting the wrong size pitch in the checker. You would have to force the screw in harder for the steal unit before damaging it.

**Q: are the numbers engraved or printed? the reviews say both.**
A: The numbers on my checker are printed. On the standard screw checker are printed also. I bought it 12 years ago, alot of use and abuse and it still looks good. Thanks for reminding me that I could take care of it alittle better.
