The pad is flattened out a little but it is still going strong. This year we have been keeping the thermostat turned down to 65 during winter so everyone was fighting over who gets to sleep in the heated bed. We bought three more beds in January so now everyone has their own warm bed. We have two long-hired chihuahua that prefer to sleep in small calming beds but these heated beds are winners with our one short-haired dog and three cats. They are well made and the color is nice. I've only washed one of them. It was a little difficult getting the foam stuffed back into the cover but it can be done and the fabric washed nicely.
