Review: 18X Cleanser Recipe & SoapNut Laundry Review - So far, I'm very impressed. I did get about six loads with an HE washer off a bag with about 6 nuts in it. The laundry comes out clean. Nothing spectacular in the scent - it really doesn't leave one behind (which is really good for my husband, who is a law enforcement officer working at a state prison - max security - and doesn't want to go to work smelling like a flower). And the clothes weren't particularly soft or anything, but they were definitely clean, and that's what I'm using my washing machine for in the first place. The fact that it's easy on the environment, all natural, etc - certainly makes it worth my while & a great value, too. And it definitely DOES WASH your clothes - they DO GET very clean. I am probably going to get some of those wool-dryer balls soon, and maybe add some scented oil b/c I DO happen to like clothes that smell good. The one thing I wanted to note in particular was the 18x cleaning solution that comes along with this. WOW. What a great cleanser for all surfaces, etc. Even OK to use on fabrics & furniture, carpets, sinks, cabinets, countertops, etc. It might not be the best thing for glass, although it does my glass-top stove just fine. I added 1TBSP of the 18X to an old Windex squirt bottle, filled it the rest of the way up with FILTERED WATER - with a ZERO filter, the best kind you can get! And then I added a special mix of Essential Oils. It's not enough to make the cleanser greasy, or cause it to leave stains or smears or residue, but it is enough to leave a wonderful scent throughout my house whenever I use the cleanser. I added about 15-20 drops each of Essential Lane Oils (which I purchased from eBay last year): Lemon Lemongrass (a bit sweeter than regular lemon - i often use BOTH) Peppermint AND Yarrow (this one was Aroma Eden brand - but when using Yarrow, just be sure you use a brand where the Yarrow Oil itself has a slight blue tint - that's how you know it's real Yarrow Oil & not a synthetic copy). WOW - what a wonderful scent, and a great cleanser! Couldn't be happier!
Review: really good so far for multiple uses - These were good. a little tacky. nice and in whole shells. the berries last a long time. i'm a first time buyer of soap nuts and they've treated me well so far. i've used them for shampooing, as a body wash, a face wash, laundry detergent, and dish detergent. i read that the liquid can sting your eyes. they make mine really itchy, but it's fine for me. these soap nuts are very good as laundry detergent. they don't leave a smell on my clothes. i am trying to avoid artificial scents in commercial laundry detergent. these soap nuts also work very well as dish detergent. i'm not sure if it's better than dish detergent, but it is just as good in my opinion. and as SHAMPOO, i have very, very fine, straight hair. i have had trouble with other natural shampoo recipes, trying to remove all excess oil from my hair so it doesn't look greasy all the time, which it does very easily, because my hair is really fine. I'm chinese, and my hair is so fine that if i don't at least partially blow dry it after shampooing, my hair dries like how it is as it's wet, and it looks greasy after, because it's clumpier. these soap nuts work very well for hair like that. i also like having to do fewer things in the shower, and though i don't plan on continuing my use of soap nuts as a facial cleanser for long (because my face needs more lovin than plain soap nut liquid), using this really shortens the amount of time i spend in the shower because i can just pour the liquid all over my hair and body. ALSO, my boyfriend (the account holder) has eczema and psoriasis. he's itchy all day every day. maybe not 24/7 though. anyways, he has a huge problem with shampoos and soaps drying out his scalp and skin, which makes him itch even more. he has dry, flaky skin in some areas, and other areas are just plain dry. he never uses soap or shampoo for this reason, and a regular rinse under the shower is enough for him to get clean or else he'd itch way too much from soaps and shampoos. these soap nuts work wonders for him. they don't magically vanish his dry, patchy spots, but they sure do help. his scalp is also less itchy after shampooing with this. his scalp starts getting very itchy every evening/night, because he's sensitive to having too much oil on his scalp. we found this out after i suggested he use soap nut liquid as a shampoo instead of simply rinsing with water. he has used this on his face as well. he has eczema on his face. he says it has made his skin softer. recently he did something stupid: he diluted 10% ACV with water, put it on his face, and left it on there for hours (reading miracle stories of other people leaving it on their face) and gave himself a chemical burn LOL. because he had such good results with soap nut liquid on his scalp, he decided to give it a try on his face, and it relieved him of a lot of itching and irritation. he hasn't used this for his body, yet, but i'm sure it will be great, since it was great on his scalp and face. BUT, my boyfriend always rubs on moisturizer in his scalp and his face after washing with the liquid, and paired together is how it works great on him. he does not use commercial, chemical-laden moisturizers. i make him 100% organic and natural moisturizer with high quality and nourishing ingredients. i've informed myself of how to tell higher quality ingredients from lower quality ingredients, or things to stay away from... like how most essential oils are bs, and filled with synthetics, etc. if you're interested in using essential oils in your homemade products, please research this, as it's very important. ^_^ sorry for maybe weird wording and stuff, i haven't slept in a while and thought i could write a very informative review to help anyone else with my or my boyfriend's problems.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: If nuts are always in the washer with the laundry, does the laundry ever get properly rinsed?**
A: I don't know, I was concerned about that too. Try simmering 8 nuts in 1 quart of water for two hours, strain, and use the liquid. I use 1/4 to 1/3 cup in my high-efficiency washer and my clothes come out smelling clean and fresh. Store the liquid in a jar in the refrigerator.

**Q: How do you know when the nuts are ready to be tossed and new ones used? Also, mine are not creating suds, are they supposed to? Thanks!**
A: I toss mine after 5-7 uses, depending on how dirty and/or large the loads were. I've read that some people toss them when they get squishy and/grayish, but I rarely see mine get to that point, even after 8-10 washes.Mine rarely create suds, there may be a few bubbles that pop quickly but I've never had the same suds as the chemical/commercial brands. That being said, I feel like the nuts always have my clothes clean and fresh. It is an adjustment to seeing no "evidence" of cleaning agents but they really do work!

**Q: Do they work with an HE washer?**
A: Absolutely, that is what I have. I have been using them since March 2015. I boil mine and then make them into pre measured ice cubes. There are directions for doing this method online and sometimes you can get it in the packaging from whichever company you get your soap berries from. I like the NatruOil, they have worked out very well for me.

**Q: Has anyone tried using the soap nuts for cleaning your hair?**
A: I use these soap nuts less for laundry now and more for hair and bodywash. I make a super concentrated version, taking 16 nuts and boiling them in 6 cups of water. Boil for 20 minutes, add another cup of water and boil for 10 minutes, and one last cup of water and boil for an additional 10. Mix 1 tablespoon citric acid to help preserve. I place in a hair dye squeeze bottle with room for air so I can shake it up into a lather. I work the lather into my roots before I get in the shower. Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse with water, really massaging your scalp as you rinse it out. Finish with a diluted cup of vinegar 1/4 cup to a cup of water as a final rinse. I have long hair and I wash only when my roots are oily (usually every 3 days). No poo has never worked for me but this method finally does! Very pleased with the results. I plan to only use shampoo when I absolutely need to (traveling, etc) because the mixture is a little more high maintainced and will only last a week before becoming rancid.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works like magic!!!
*by V***C on June 9, 2020*

I have been "no poo" for 1 month now and other "no poo" methods weren't cutting it for me. I decided to try these as I've heard soap nuts aka reetha is supposed to be really great for cleaning hair naturally and does not alter the pH of your scalp. I will first say, I have hard water at home. I made the mistake of using only 5 nuts in 1 cup of tap water in the little bag it comes with at first. I boiled them with some rosemary and the scent was alright. When I strained the water after and let it cool, I used it to wash. It left my hair feeling very waxy and unclean. I was grossed out. My hair felt better BEFORE I washed and I couldn't figure out what the heck I did wrong! A few days later, I tried it again the same way. I thought maybe my hair just needed to get used to it since I'm still in the transition phase of my "no poo" journey anyway. NOPE, it was still gross after that wash too. I reached out on an online forum to find out what I was doing wrong and I got the advice that since I have hard water, I should use 10 soap nuts per 500 ml (about 2 cups) of tap water. And instead of boiling them, I should put them in a jar and stick it in the fridge to cold brew it. People have sworn to me that this method for some reason has worked much better for cleaning their hair. I don't know if cold brewing allows for more saponins to be released into the water than it does when boiling, but I tried it, and it worked!!! The smell is... something to get used to for sure. Not horrible but not great. It's very earthy. But the good thing is that it does not last in my hair once rinsed out. I washed my hair with about 1/3 of the cold brew I made and then I followed that with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse (this is used for conditioning - 1 tablespoon in 1 cup of water) and my hair has never felt lighter, cleaner, or silkier! All the dirt and grime that I had collecting on my scalp that I just could not get rid of with other "no poo" methods have just melted away with these soap nuts. I HIGHLY recommend. They are good quality and I am able to reuse the same nuts multiple times before they run out of potency. They really do work! I will definitely be buying these again, but this bag should last me quite a long time!!
