The former because one had finally blown out, and the other was of the same age, and the CFLs because of their fragility and health hazards of mercury cleanup when one breaks.We could not be more pleased with these bulbs! A few good points... - size/format --- fit every fixture/lamp harp etc. we used them in with no tight squeeze or other problem - the color temperature is accurate and color rendition in the room is pleasing and very close to the incandescent bulbs which were replaced - the light is not harsh on the eyes - the bulb construction seems very durable --- probably a fair bit more so than a glass incandescent bulb and, for sure, much more durable than CFLs.
