The natural oil in the hairs can get dried out from hot water. The balm is more for giving the beard a well kept look and controlling get-away hairs. It's not waxy and is very subtle. Overall, a thoughtful and practical gift that’s sure to be appreciated. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good kit *by A***R on 14 December 2019* I reviewed each item, so please bear with me: • presentation- nice box, maty black, slides open to reveal contents. • Brush- med. strength boar bristle. moderate size, can hold comfortably. • Comb-Dual tooth, wide and narrow teeth, broke easily. • Scissors- have no use for these since I do not trim my own beard, however, looked good quality • beard oil- Clear in colour, a plus for those with white beards as it will not 'dye' the hairs once applied. minimal scent, since I prefer oils with a scent to them, I will be using this as part of my nighttime beardcare when I'm not worried about the smell when I'm asleep. nice and easily applicable. doesnt leave a greasy feel (i used 9 drops initially, and then an additional 3 for longer strands, I do this with ALL oils due to the length). • balm- again, minimal scent, will use this if I'm wearing afterdhave and don't want several scents to collide. easy to apply. • Beard wash- good for travel kits, minimal scent, does the job. • styling tool: nice solid piece, wont bend in your hand as you use it. All in all, I would certainly say this is a good starters kit.
