Is it glaring if standing in front and looking at them?** A: No cut off line, blinds people unless you aim them way down on some sort bracket **Q: do these actually work well as fog lights** A: Fog lights must have Amber colored light output. There are two reasons. First, the human eye is most sensitive to brightness variations in the yellow part of the spectrum. Thus, we perceive much better contrast in that color range. And since fog decreases contrast, Amber light helps make up for that. Second, shorter wavelengths are more readily scattered by small particles in the atmosphere than are longer wavelengths. So you want your fog lights to emit very little short wavelength (bluish) light because it will just be scattered and reflected back toward you, making the fog effect much worse. You want longer wavelengths (red to yellow) to penetrate the fog and "cut through" It. There are very good reasons why ski goggles are Amber, and why real fog lights are Amber. People have gotten hoodwinked into buying bluish-colored headlights, etc., but the fact is that the standard "warm white" (yellowish tint) is far more effective and safe for any car headlights. You see farther and with less glare and better contrast with yellowish light, assuming the brightness level is the same. Bluish light also blinds oncoming drivers far worse. This idiotic bluish light craze is hip and "fashionable", but it is scientifically ridiculous, and makes for much worse driving conditions for everyone on the road. It is particularly asinine for fog lights. Look for legitimate, Amber lights with correctly designed reflectors and lenses to keep fog light beams aimed very low to help prevent the scattered light from coming back towards you, making fog, snow, or rain driving worse. Fog lights are meant to be mounted low, and aimed low to help prevent the beam fro illuminating the fog/rain/snow that is near your car and up high enough to bounce right back at you. Amber, mounted low, proper beam shape, and aimed low so the beam skims low to the ground. Those things help reduce reflections back into the driver's eyes. And turn off your high beams, maybe even your headlights alltogether. Running with only the amber fog lights during snow or fog is often desired.
