I tried to save money by making a homebrew mix of generic-branded local MgCl2 and CaCl (3:1 mix). Still significantly inferior in deicing for the price, with 2-3 times the volume I'd need with yours. Pricey now with the recent blizzards across the US...wacked natures, wacked times. But looking to stock up more. In the midwest.

This stuff is great at melting ice and snow, immediately after I put it down. The only thing I've noticed that might be a negative is that in some places, it leaves a little bit of a residual spot on the concrete, almost like I've spilled something oily. It goes away after awhile, and can be rinsed, if it is bothersome to you. This is my second bag of it, and I'll be ordering more.
