It fits 15-18 inch dolls only and although it is designed very similarly to the mommy size one for a real baby it is not authorized or safe for living babies, it is only designed for toys. As for the weight limit of the child WEARING the doll carrier, we have one and my daughter began using at at her 3rd birthday and still wears her dolls in this carrier and has just turned 6. If waist measurement is an issue, I would say that it is pretty expandable and that given its straps and buckles a pretty hefty child could still wear this to carry their doll.
