How do you set it?** A: as a clock dial, the calibrations indicate one minute per scale. However as an alarm dial, the calibrations indicate 12 minutes per scale. Since it quartz alarm clock, not digital alarm clock, the alarm will goes off nearly the time you set. **Q: How long does the ringing last?** A: LOL! Until the dead are awake! Seriously it keeps ringing... I think it might stop after a minute because it will be past the alarm time. It's so obnoxiously loud that I don't wait that long to find out. ;) **Q: Does the hammer actually strike the bells?** A: Yes, When the alarm goes off, the hammer will strike the bells. **Q: How do I set the alarm at 2: 00 AM?** A: If you mean set the alarm for two am, then all you have to do is line up the alarm hand to the 2 on the clock face and switch the alarm on, (with a small switch on the back of the clock), at any time after two pm the previous day. If you do not wait until after two pm, it will just go off at two pm. If you mean actually setting the alarm at two am, as in fiddling with the clock in the middle of the night, then you might want a different clock, because the backlight only works if you hold the button down, making operating it difficult. If you wake up at the same time every day, however, then all you would need to do is flip the switch, which would be easy to do, even without light. I never had any trouble setting it, and like the clock, just bear in mind that you can only set it for up to a little under twelve hours away.
