It has a stainless steel outer shell with clear plastic windows to see salt and pepper contents. Twist action grind from either side, and both sides have removable caps. I took it apart and the grinding mechanism really is ceramic.I find this grinder is a good value. I have a few other grinders that are a lot more expensive than this one. I wanted another one to use for outside while barbecuing and for the patio. No more need to carry out separate salt and pepper grinders. This suits my need just fine and it looks great for backyard dinners and parties. ### ⭐⭐ Caps don't stay on & horrible to fill *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2017* We between the hassles of filling the salt & pepper shaker and the end caps constantly falling off when you pick it up I would not recommend this grinder.
