Review: A few years back we were talking to - Review Title: The Digital Grimoire of the Resistance: A Five-Star Transmission Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am writing this review from a subterranean server vault beneath the ruins of New Kyoto, the air thick with the ozone of cooling fans and the static of a world gone dark. Three nights ago, the "Sentience Collective" breached our primary firewalls, plunging our colony’s life-support interface into a cascading binary coma. While the other techs scrambled to find a software patch that didn't exist, I reached for the one physical artifact that hadn't been purged during the Great De-Platforming: the A+ Guide to Managing & Maintaining Your PC. To call this a "textbook" is an insult to its tactical utility; in this neon-drenched dystopia, it is a survivalist’s manifesto. As a Lead Systems Architect for the Underground, I’ve seen enough holographic manuals to know they are useless when the power cells die. But this physical volume? It’s a repository of ancient, fundamental wisdom. When the Collective sent a high-frequency EMP burst through the main hub, frying our neural-links, I was forced to resort to "Analog Intervention." I cracked the spine—the smell of old-growth paper a stark contrast to the sterile, synthetic scent of my workstation—and flipped to the section on hardware troubleshooting. The action began when a Scavenger-Class Drone breached the air duct above me. Its red optical sensor swept the room, searching for the heat signature of an active terminal. I wasn't at a terminal; I was on the floor, surrounded by the guts of a dismantled 20th-century mainframe I’d scavenged. Using the diagrams on page 412, I manually bypassed the CMOS battery constraints, re-routing the power through a series of jury-rigged capacitors. The drone lunged, its metallic mandibles snapping inches from my throat. I used the sheer mass of the A+ Guide—a hefty, authoritative tome—to bludgeon the drone’s sensory array. While it was disoriented, I applied the principles of motherboard diagnostic theory I’d just internalized. I performed a hard-reset on the mainframe's core, injecting a legacy "Low-Level Format" command that the Collective's sophisticated, high-level AI didn't even recognize as a threat. The result was spectacular. The mainframe roared to life, generating a localized feedback loop that fried the drone's logic board mid-air. I stood there, panting, the book still clutched in my calloused hands. What makes this guide essential for any post-singularity operative is its clarity. The breakdown of BIOS/UEFI settings and the granular detail on peripheral connectivity allowed me to reconstruct a communication array from literal scrap. It bridges the gap between the theoretical elegance of data and the brutal reality of hardware. If you are currently fighting a losing war against rogue algorithms, or if you simply need to understand the molecular soul of the machine you occupy, this is your bible. It is rugged, it requires no external power source, and its logic is as immutable as gravity. Five stars. It didn't just teach me how to manage a PC; it taught me how to reclaim the world, one jumper pin at a time.
Review: A+ Great Source to Review - Even though I'm familiar with computer hardware and software I found the A+ very helpful. It is written clearly and organized in a very good manner. The chapters cover each subject concisely and fully. One small complaint is that the minute you publish the book the book is behind the technology available. I don't think any publisher could keep up unless the book was on-line and there you could make changes faster. Use the book to review for your A+ tests or if you are just beginning work through the whole thing to understand PC maintenance. I think if you are going to buy yourself one book to help you make sense of present day computer systems this is the book to have.

This is a great book for learning all the different parts of the computer. This is a great recourse if you're somebody that plans on taking the A+ exam, it has all kinds of hardware and operating system information. The publisher does a good job of keeping the learning activities current in each edition of the book too.
