This is exactly what I wanted it for as well. The books ask for a 4 quart dutch oven, but that does not seem to exist.I had asked the question from others if I need to oil the pot prior to placing the dough inside. The reason I asked what that once before (with a larger Dutch oven I own) I had placed the dough inside the cold Dutch oven and let it rise before placing the vessel in the preheated oven. The bread was terrily stuck.Once I read that the Dutch oven must be pre-heated and then the proofed loaf goes in the hot vessel the problem of sticking was solved. There is not sticking. And while the proofed loaf collapes somewhat during handling and transfering, it does rise nicely during baking. The crust is heavenly, similar to the breads I grew up with. YESSS!!!!!This is a quality pot. Another reviewer mentioned the comfortable handles and large knob , an important factor when using heat safe gloves. This pots shines in all aspects. Originally bought for baking bread. Never really liked the bread. (Looking for a better recipe.) Since then I've used it for cooking stew, soup, sausages, pork chops, whole chickens, ribs, etc. Everything comes our perfect, whether on stovetop or in the oven. Brown meat in same pot as you simmer it. Recipes cook at a very low temperature, but is done faster than my slow cooker. Used the slow cooker when I worked. Retired now, and can cook something in 3 hours that is even more tender. This pot never leaves my stove top because I use it so often. It's small in size but I cook for two. Fits a whole chicken and most recipes.
