## Description

The new VDV II Series are easy to use cable testers that check the integrity of copper cables commonly found in domestic, commercial or industrial voice, data or video installations, including telephone wiring, data network and video/security cabling. Employing state-of-the-art technology, VDV II offers functionality not previously available in a wiremapper. The advanced wiremap engine accurately displays complex wiring faults instantaneously whilst TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) aids troubleshooting and improves on-site productivity.

Review: I use this and the VDV Pro, I really like all the eatures of the tool - I am a low volt cable guy, with techs who work for me. Each one of my techs carry this or the VDV pro. We us it for every cable we install and terminate. It tells us the length of what we installed, for billing purposes. It tells us the pass or fail of the cable. We also use it to troubleshoot facilities where we have to test, identify, or verify a cable. It allows us to know if the cable is in a switch and then to make that switch port link light blink at a slow enough rate to easily identify the port the cable is on. Well built, and the additional 12 identification remotes are worth their weight in gold, when working with multiple cables at a facility.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this tester show a pass or fail result as soon as the remote is plugged in, or do you need to hit "test" to get it to start testing?**
A: No it will not show previous results, It will only show the actual results and once disconnected that data is lost.  On the other hand once you turn on the unit it will start testing.

**Q: Is this unit using capacitance or tdr to measure lenght?  i know the pro using tdr.**
A: According to the Ideal website in the models section the Pro has all of the previous model features and in addition to that it has TDR and some other features - Features
All the features of the VDV II, VDV II Plus and...

Distance to Open / Short (TDR)
PoE Detection with Voltage Information
Media Service Detection
Ethernet Detection with Network Rate and Duplex Information.  

It also says on the features page that the pro has tdr - 
"Accuracy
The flagship VDV II Pro utilises TDR to accurately measure cable length and provide distance to fault information. "

I would assume this means that the plus does not have tdr, but that is a guess.  The manual for the Plus model mentions the following in the length measurement section, "... Accurate length measurement relies on correct setting of the capacitance per unit length (C) of the cable to be tested."

**Q: Does this kit come with the case and the 6 rj45 cable tracer objectors?**
A: Yes it came with case , and inside the case there are a handful of cables for testing. But I recommend to get the pro useful things like voltage measurement and other stuff

**Q: Does this tester provide printable reports?**
A: It does not provide printable output of any kind.

This tester saved the day when running cable to our new addition at church. Our old tester required having both ends attached to the tester, and still didn't pinpoint where the fault was. We were nervous about the unknown brand, but decided to take a risk to save several hundred dollars. We saved hours of work (and cable ends). This showed us exactly where the fault was and we were able to fix it easily. Awesome product!
