Replacement of old Briggs and Stratton 2hp model 60102.
I have an older Briggs and Stratton 2hp engine ( Model 60102 ) that had no spark. I bought this Magneto armature to replace the old one and to also finally get rid of the points and condenser that were still on the engine. This magneto handles the spark and also the timing so the points and condenser are no longer needed.I took the engine cover off, removed the pull starter mechanism using the proper tool and also removed the flywheel using the small Briggs tool, Makes it so easy. You can just cut off the wires and leave everything under the timing cover and that would work too, but I had the tools so I removed them. The new magneto comes with a metal plug to press into the points plunger hole and seal it shut. If you remove all the points and the pieces with it, you will need to plug the hole. If you leave the points and everything intact and just cut the wires, you will be fine and not have to use the plug. If you are just cutting the wires leading to the points, you will not have to remove the flywheel or the starter mech, just the front engine cover (3 bolts).Anyhow, the new magneto or coil bolted right up and came with a cardboard spacing card to easily set the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. Once all was back together, first pull and the old engine fired right up.Works very well.

OEM and it works great.
OEM, in original box. This part is made to fit many mowers and if you go to the Briggs and Stratton website they'll tell you where to find the numbers you need to look up parts for your engine. Once you know which parts you need and the part number, finding them on sites like Amazon is fairly simple. Amazon almost always has the best price, and they have OEM and aftermarket parts for most items. All that aside, the Magneto was easy to install, the box has instructions and a card to use for correct gap. My 12 year old mower is now running like a champ again, when it comes to things like the magneto I prefer the OEM, to me it is worth the few extra dollars to know I have the right part and it is well made.

Works Perfect
Excellent replacement for the older points/condenser system. Easy to install. Creates good spark. This is an OEM part and will cost a bit more than an aftermarket. I believe it's worth it. Price was very reasonable for this OEM part as compared to same one available at the local dealership. OEM should just go ahead and include the spark plug boot with it though. You'll have to transfer your old one over or purchase another if you wish to continue using one.

Solved one of life's little problems
B&S engine on my ancient mower kept dying after running a bit. After letting the mower sit, the engine would start again, but would fail shortly afterward. This little magneto jewel fixed the problem and now I mow happy. Also bought a spark plug and air filter to eradicate those demons, too.

Sold and shipped from Amazon
Just got this in, late, the box is crushed. So can’t tell if, it is actually new or a retun that I got. It was shipped in a large paper envelope. Not even the very light padded ones. There was a piece of the included parts floating around in the bag. If it had ripped it would most likely be gone. The driver didn’t throw it (I have cameras) at least. I’m afraid to use it as it could be damaged, I may return it. Especially if I don’t need to replace existing coil I just wanted it handy for when I rip apart the blower. Not going to hang onto a part I don’t have confidence in. As far as part it’s appears to be the right size and shape. I’ll measure with calipers later. Arrive with all advertised parts. Price was reasonable.

Happy mistake on this purchase.
I bought this as a direct replacement coil for a old Snapper lawnmower with points. I already bought the point kit figuring this would complete the electrical rebuild but as it turned out, destiny has other plans. The point kit I received was missing parts and I was not unable to use it. The coil I purchased here does away with the points all together. I didn't understand that when I made the purchase so it was in fact a mistake on my part, but a happy mistake as it turned out. I am very old school with my machinery and used to the old style points. The coil here works very well with the old points still in place. It has a built in coil pick and a switching transistor that does the work in that area. Instructions do not cover that very well. I had to do a little research online to get that information. A first try install (dry run) didn't result in any spark while I turned the flywheel by hand. I always got some spark in the past with the points and old style coil just by rotating it hand. No luck here with this coil. Some more reading online tells the story about that. You need to spin the flywheel at least 360 rpm to get it to work.Note: There is a small piece of paper with instructions on it. It is to be used as an air gap feeler gage so don't throw that away just yet. If your not familiar on that subject in a nut shell that is the gap between the flywheel magnet and coil armature. Make sure that is correct. All and all it worked out pretty well and I am a believer. I may use this system to upgrade other small engines when the time comes .Hope you find this information helpful as I have found this new style coil to be. (Briggs & Stratton label this type of coil as a Magnetron)

Mower now starts on first pull! Great fix for an old mower.
Had an old mower that would start once, but once warm would not restart. Went thru carb and didn't make a bit of difference. Figure coil was getting weak spark after warm. The mower now starts first pull, not bad for a push mower that is 40 years old. very happy with results.
