Codenames Duet XXL is a cooperative word association board game designed for 2-4 players aged 11 and up. Product Description Codenames: Duet XXL, the cooperative version of our popular word association game, brings an improvement over its smaller predecessor with more comfortable play. Directions 1. Remove the game from its packaging. 2. Place the board in the center of the table. 3. Shuffle the Duet key cards and place them on the board according to the mission map. 4. Place the agent cards face down near the board. 5. Choose one player to be the first clue giver. 6. The clue giver gives one-word clues to their partner, trying to get them to identify their agents among those on the table. 7. The partner tries to identify the agents based on the clues. 8. Continue taking turns being the clue giver until all agents are found or the turns run out.

Review: Again! - This is a brilliant 2 player game. Most people are probably familiar with Codenames and how it works, this version is for 2 only and is co-op. Each player must take turns to give clues to locate an agent on the grid. Make a mistake, you may hook up with an innocent bystander, or worse, an assassin which ends the game immediately. Always immensely fun trying to link words together as you see the turn 'clock' tick down. There are something like 400 additional words (can be mixed with existing Codenames) and plenty grid squares, no games will be the same. Also they have included a world map with cities that has various difficulty settings; almost like a mini campaign. Games last 15 - 20 mins and once you finish one, you'll want to immediately start another. Sign of a great, fun game.

You can also play it with more than two, just by having multiple players on each side, as a co-operative variant to Codenames. The benefit to this is that you don't have the downtime as in the original, because both sides are trying to give clues, so even whilst you are waiting to be receive one, you can be thinking about your own clues. I have Codenames Pictures as well, but don't find that as enjoyable - I think there is a lot more scope for creativity in connecting words rather than pictures. Duet in particular is very well designed. Each player has some information about the board - a number of agents, a number of bystanders, and assassins. There is some overlap - some of the agents are known to both players, but you don't know which ones these are. You take it in turns to give clues - there is also an optional houserule that you don't have to strictly take turns, e.g. if the first player has two clues ready in a row and the second doesn't, they can do that. Aside from this, it's also nice that you get a whole new set of words that you can use with this game or with the original Codenames.

**Q: How does codenames duet xxl differ from codenames duet ?**
A: The cards and words are bigger. I purchased this set for a visually impaired person. I’m not certain if the words are any different but I prefer playing with this set as it’s easier for me to read too! It will take a bit more space to play since the cards are bigger but we play on the table or floor without any challenges.

This is a brilliant 2 player game. Most people are probably familiar with Codenames and how it works, this version is for 2 only and is co-op. I love the original Codenames, and Duet is a great variant to allow it to be played with two players.
