## Description

desertcart.com : The Cover Guy Premium Hot Tub Cover | Custom Made Replacement Spa Cover | Energy-Saving Hot Tub Covers Built for All Climates | 6, 5, or 4 inch Taper : Patio, Lawn & Garden

Review: Good cover, but it's all in the details... - I purchased this hot tub cover about a year ago. I held off writing a review so I could give it some time to see how it works and holds up. It's still an evaluation in process, but so far so good. Prior to buying, I thoroughly researched all the major hot tub cover manufacturers, the plusses and minuses of their product. Hot tub covers are expensive and my ultimate goal was to ensure I bought one which would give me the longest life I could. The biggest problem researching H/T covers is getting accurate information. A lot of companies have details which are vague or even misleading on their websites. You read a lot of horror stories too about shoddy construction. And there are a ton of options, "...which ones do I need?". When you order from the Cover Guy on desertcart, you're basically ordering the 'base' cover and then a Cover Guy (C/G) rep will contact you for any adds you might want, which they will bill you for extra above and beyond the desertcart order. Only after you submit the documentation to them on size/shape/color/options and sign it will they release the order. I went through desertcart so I would theoretically have some leverage if the service wasn't good (which turned out not to be an issue). I had a ton of very specific questions for the Cover Guy rep before I ordered and finally found a person who could answer them (it wasn't the associate who handles their desertcart account). The adds The Cover Guy has are legitimate, not an up-sell. If you go with the basic top, you're going to get just a basic product that probably won't last as long if you spend a little more on some upgrades. And the upgrades you order can vary depending on if you live in the N. or S. or keep your H/T indoors, so it's not a one thing fits all kind of order. A person needs to be thoughtful when ordering. Some of the additional options help increase lifespan and energy efficiency. For example, I opted for the much stiffer 2 lb foam in a 5"-3" taper to handle heavy snow loads, or the unexpected large dog or kid climbing on the cover. It's much stiffer and more energy efficient and tends not to absorb water as readily as the 1.5 lb foam. There's value in that. Then there's the double-wrap foam option because any holes or tears in the wrap allow chemicals and rain water to get inside and soak the metal center support and corrode it (making it weak). insulated hinge. I wish I would have went with additional side straps due to windy conditions. The Cover Guy distributes two different covers: Prestige made in FL and another one made in Mexico (and maybe other factories). I'm sure they're both good, but you have to request the Prestige if you want it. I went with the Prestige because looking at their product videos their construction looks really good (although there is one youtube video where the cover fits poorly). The insulated hinge on the Prestige for example is thick and fluffy with nicely squared-off corners which sandwiches perfectly between the two halves of the cover and doesn't leave an air gap for heated tub air to escape. Some covers have a really cheaply made center flap that doesn't fit well and leaks air. The zippers are nicely tucked away and shouldn't leak water into the cover (another weakness of some cover designs). The overlapping side flaps fit well. You can tell the Cover Guy rep how long you want the skirt length and they made mine to the exact increment (I think 3 1/2") I wanted and it fit perfectly. Even though they don't specifically advertise a custom skirt length to the 1/2" they can customize it and like I said, mine fit right on the money. Another unique item Prestige offers is a mesh underside. I toggled back/fourth on weather to go mesh or waterproof. Ultimately what kills hot tub covers is moisture gets inside the vinyl cover, the moisture gets trapped in there, waterlogs the foam, rots the center metal support C-channels and makes the cover weigh a couple hundred pounds. When it gets heavy people get rough with them trying to open them and the weight tears the center hinge (which lets in even MORE moisture). It's all downhill from there. If you feel your cover getting heavy, stop and pull out the foam and let them dry ..and re-wrap in plastic. If you can keep the moisture out, the cover could theoretically last almost forever or until the vinyl rots. Most manufacturers encase the foam in some type of plastic to keep them dry and any moisture drains through and down a hole in the inside cover. But the plastic covers eventually tear and let moisture in. Some commercial users say a mesh underside allows the owner to remove the cover and let it dry out in the sun as you use your hot tub. As long as a person was disciplined enough to let it dry out on a regular basis, it would probably be a good way to go. The counter argument is that with mesh, condensation occurs on the plastic directly covering the foam instead of occuring on the underside cover itself. Ultimately I decided to stick with a vinyl underside, maybe I'll try the mesh next time. Finally, if any cover manufacturer advertised they use a stainless steel 18 gauge center C-channels, they'd have my business. Most use flimsy 20 or 22 ga metal that isn't nearly as well corrosion resistent as they claim. I believe Prestige uses an Aluminum C channel, but aluminum corrodes too. We'll see. When it comes to colors, the darker colors are going to tend to warp and become chalky before lighter colors due to sun absorption. So, a light gray cover will look better longer than a black one. I went with chestnut because it matched my tub, but it's something to keep in mind. My cover arrived pretty quickly once the order was released ...less than 2 weeks and was packaged nicely. Normally they tell you to open it up in front of the shipper in case there is some damage, but the shipper dropped it off like a day in advance and I wasn't home at the time. It arrived undamaged and as I held my breath, it fit nice when I installed it. The stitching is nice, really aren't any flaws. There are some wrinkles in the foam cover plastic (below the vinyl) that you can sort of see beneath the vinyl, but not quite enough for me to make a beef about. Any worse and I would have. One design area Prestige could really improve upon would be if they sewed it with the seam on the side (just over the top) and with the top overlapping the side. That way, any water would shed off the top and drip off. As it is, water can pool up at the seam and I'm sure water gets inside between the vinyl and the insulating boards. It would also be nice if they didn't use a 'split' corner skirt, but it is what it is and looks and fits nice. It doesn't hang over the edge and isn't out of square. Here's another a tip to keep in mind ...and another reason I ordered from the Cover Guy: Once a cover ages and becomes unsightly, they have your order on file and you can order another cover ...but only a much-cheaper vinyl 'skin' for significantly less than a whole new cover with insulation. For one thing they can ship it in a box which reduces the cost. then re-install your foam insulating boards into the new skin. You would want to let the foam dry and re-cover them with plastic too. I started with 5 stars but I'll report back as I've had a chance to see how this cover ages. So far it looks and fits nice.
Review: High quality! - I can’t say enough about this cover! Best quality, perfect fit worth every penny! I was so impressed when I opened the package, I did not expect the high quality!
