I originally came to buy more of a journaling book but saw this has a lot of great reviews. I somehow got the impression that there was a good balance of journal pages to activities but there are not as many as I was expecting.NOT saying that it's a bad thing, just depends on what you're wanting/expecting.When I first opened it I thought "I could of found stuff like this on Pinterest" but my daughter said "OH MY GOSH, I LOVE IT!" then sat down and looked through it. So maybe I could have found similar stuff on Pinterest but in the end it makes it more special for girls to have a special, cute book to hold and work on. And honestly, the price is good so we can always get more of a journal, as well.One other thing I don't really like is the tear-outs rip and mess up easily-even when being careful. Mom is a busy nursing student and daughter is 8 years old. I looked through every page when I got it from Amazon and it is wonderful! Many ways for daughters and mothers to share and get to know each other better. Several opportunities for mom to teach daughter important lessons too but not in a heavy lecture way. I love it! I am jealous because I want to do it with them. I wish I had had something like this for myself and my daughters when I was a nursing student and they were pre-teens. Now it is up to them to enjoy it and to make the most of it and I know they will. Worth every penny! Illustrations cute and colorful but not babyish. I highly recommend this for moms and daughters especially at that age when they start to challenge you( about 10 years old) and you wonder where did my sweet little girl go? It will open up the line of communication and smooth then out and help you both get through that stage easier I think. don't wait get it for Christmas! I cant think of a better gift for my daughter. When looking at options of books similar to this, I was sure to read a few reviews on each book, and this was the winner. I am so glad I chose this one! I had high expectations being that it was from American Girl, but they definitely exceeded them! I love that the book has so many ways to engage mother and daughter! We really enjoyed going through the list of "favorite" items, it was interesting to hear some of my daughter's answers, but even more fun to hear her guess mine! If your daughter is anything like mine, she will definitely appreciate taking the time to go through these ideas and activities with you and learning some new facts about mom! To be honest, our days are so busy, it’s easy to push off this time, so I actually appreciate it when she pulls this book out and asks to do an activity with me. Definitely a good purchase and I would highly recommend this!
