The first was cramped to the point of making it hard to get my sandwich out. This box has plenty of room on all sides to fit my sandwich. While the height of the bottom tray squishes my sandwich from the top down, I have no issue with this draw back. The addition of a third box in the upper tray is very handy for foods that you don't want bounced around like my Trisket Crackers or say raspberries / blueberries / blackberries and etc. The lid of the third box is handy as it helps to snap and secure it in the upper tray. I have found this lunch box to be just right for my needs. I don't have to fight my food to get at it or leave items behind that won't fit, and this is helpful when I have to sit a 12 hour shift and I can have some good snacks during that time.
