It's essential equipment for anyone who's picked up his or her first fly rod and is taking those first steps into the world of fly fishing -- clear, entertaining, and funny. The late Sheridan Anderson -- self-described "eternal foe of the work ethic" -- has ingeniously made fly fishing approachable for decades of prospective anglers. Simply a classic. As the title suggests, the book concentrates on the skills most useful on small streams and creeks, where one is often very close to the trout . . . and where finesse in presenting the fly always trumps distance and power. It's also where one learns to be sneaky, and eventually master the "Curtis Creek crawl." It's hard to say it any better than Anderson: "A frightened fish cannot be caught."The book is full of similar nuggets of wisdom and wonderfully wacky illustrations, penned the author himself.
