The instructions were mostly easy to follow, but you must read them carefully--in the illustrations it isn't always easy to decipher what is going on. I'm an intermediate seamstress who's already sewn a bustle skirt and bodice using Truly Victorian patterns, so this one was a cinch. I made view B, which has a shape overall very typical of 1780s Paris and was exactly what I wanted. What would be the stomacher is just an attached contrast panel to the mantua, and the bodice of the mantua closes in the back with a zipper. Good for a costume, and if you know how to alter it can be used for historical purposes as well. The petticoats have slashes in the sides where belted pockets or pannier pockets can be worn, which is pretty neat.The pattern is easy to follow overall but there are little things that don't make sense, such as the pleating on the skirt of the mantua. It's not anything dire, not anything you can't fix by eyeballing.
