I did my research online and based on what I read I thought it must be either the backlight or the inverter or both. I did not have the time for trials and tribulation so I assumed that both went bad.I also bought a new screen, just in case. What I did not know at the time I bought the screen was that it comes with the backlight already installed. I thought that the backlight is a little hard to replace (very fragile and hidden on the screen top under layers of foil and tape). If you don't want the hassle, you might be better off buying a new screen and just the inverter. If you have time the backlight and inverter are cheaper alternative (paid $125 for screen).Total time to replace about two hours. Having a friend is handy. Few small Phillips screwdrivers and step by step instructions (HP has a serious problem with displays, they have these instructions available!!). I got my laptop working like a champ again!Buying from Amazon was great. When I was shopping for parts I was worried that parts may not fit. But as it turns out LCD parts have details for which laptop models the parts fit, and they did!
