I don’t want to be anywhere you’re not.”If you know me, you know that it’s no secret that I am a lover of all things Maddox so when I first heard that we were getting a novella featuring Shepley and America I was beyond excited! I fell in love with them back in Beautiful Disaster and have loved the little glimpses we’ve gotten of them in the other books so I was looking forward to getting more of their story. There was so much packed into this little novella! I loved the prologue getting to see how it all started and then reliving the moment Mare found out about Travis and Abby’s wedding and then their vow renewal. The timeline progressed through all of these milestones seamlessly and then jumping ahead even further to pick up the part of the story that was all their own. When we pick up with them at that point things are a bit strained as a big misunderstanding lies between them and they have to figure out how to work through it. This created a bit of drama for our usually happy couple and just when you think things are looking up, BAM! Jamie McGuire throws in a GIANT curveball that had me gripping my kindle a little tighter and sitting on the edge of my seat. Holy wow, things got crazy intense for a while there and I did NOT expect it. I read through much of the second half with tears in my eyes, but I soooo loved how everything turns out.‘I wasn’t just in love with her. It was like taking my first breath, then the second, and then every breath after that. America had come into my life, and then she was the reason for it.’This novella really was something beautiful, we got to see the amazing love that Shepley and America shared and the strength that it has to survive whatever is thrown at them. I also really loved getting to see more of Travis and Abby, just having them together for a moment in a scene brings back all the feels from reading Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster! There’s a scene in this book of the day after the vow renewal where we see Travis still dealing with his conversation with Thomas the day before and just reading that and thinking back to those scenes had me choking up again. It really is amazing how even after all this time these characters can still affect me like that! It’s just a testament to the ‘Maddox-effect’ and how amazing these books/characters are! I highly recommend reading those before reading Something Beautiful. Actually, I highly recommend reading Beautiful Oblivion, Beautiful Redemption, and Beautiful Sacrifice before reading Something Beautiful as well. Something Beautiful and my review may contain spoilers to these previous books.We first met America and Shepley in Beautiful Disaster. America is Abby's best friend, and Shepley is Travis' cousin. This novella is told through both America and Shepley's POVs. With their 3 year relationship almost slowing down, America hopes that one final road trip to visit her parents before the new semester begins will help push their relationship back into a direction that they both need. With a storm brewing inside the car and outside, will they get a chance to say the things they need to say to each other?I read Beautiful Disaster back in December 2011. I've been waiting to read more about America and Shepley since then! Jamie McGuire packed enough humor, romance, action, and suspense in this novella that it could have filled two full length novels. Without spoiling anything, we get to see a few scenes in the years before where they're at now, which was really fun. I'll leave you with one of my favorite lines from the book: I wasn’t just in love with her. Loved Shepley throughout this book. *by M***H on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2015* We get a glimpse behind the scenes of America and Shepley and how they first met. Their first date was one for the record books and we travel through several years of their relationship in this book. Shepley puts his heart on the line again and again for America, but she just thinks nothing of it. She has her reasons for turning him down but she doesn't explain herself. When she decides that she is ready for more of a commitment, she won't bring herself to ask since she feels she may be rejected since she rejected him so many times. They both fight their true feelings and try to do what they think the other one wants, but they wind up sad and angry. It took a disaster in order for them to both realize that they were what was important and not anything else. They thought they were unlike Travis and Abby but they were far more like them than they would ever admit. It was a quick, easy read and I really enjoyed the epilogue.
