## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the best way to go about training the dog to use these?**
A: Attach the bells to whatever door you normally let the dog out for potty purposes. After feeding, or whenever your regular routine is (after you come home?) go over to the door, have the dog sit, ring the bells (and perhaps give a treat if necessary) and let the dog out. After you do this several times, your dog will get the message. Only problem with this technique is that he/she may also think ringing the bell results in getting a treat! LOL So stock up on low calorie small treats! It works!

**Q: Can this reach close to the floor for a toy sized dog? Unsure by the other answers. Thanks!**
A: Yes! The length of the entire strip is approx 24", with one bell at the bottom, and one bell about 10" above that. If you hang them from the doorknob, the bottom bell will be about 10-12" off the floor, but you can hang them from a hook next to the door at any height you'd like. Depending on size, your dog may only be able to reach the bottom bell.I researched many versions of this product before buying this one. I think I remember seeing smaller/shorter sets, with smaller bells placed closer together, for little dogs.

**Q: What exactly does it do?**
A: They are bells that your dog uses to as left you...when he needs to go out 

**Q: Would this work on a sliding glass door handle? (does the loop unsnap and snap?)**
A: It does not snap but what you can do is pull the long piece through the loop hole as if you are almost tying it. It definitely could work.

Good quality - my pups just aren't catching on

I have tried several locations for these bells and I can't seem to get my dogs to use them. I figured my older (7yr) dog would have issues with change so late in the game but I thought my 4mo old puppy would pick it up quickly as she picks almost everything up quickly. She seems to be afraid of the bells and they are just a tad too short (even hanging from a low doorknob). She is only 4.5lbs and can still reach it with her paws so I had hope, but it seems at this point I may just have to figure out another way for them to tell me (currently just every time they go sit by the door - the one with the bells on it)I will update my review if they finally get the hang of it but for now I will give 4 stars. 5 for quality and appearance. 3 for "ease of use" and length.

my dog learned to use it quickly

I got this I think about 3 weeks ago. I bought it because I got a new dog and was having a hard time telling when she needed to go out or if she was just snooping around. I hung it on the door and every time I put the dogs out I would pull it forward and gently touch it on her nose and say "touch it". When I was lazy like in the middle of the night I would just ring it myself then open the door. I started touching it on her nose a little harder so it would ring. After I think about a week she rang it a couple of times, those first couple I am not sure if it was an accident or not. After about 2 weeks she was using it when she wanted out. Now she is so good at it she used it the other night to trick me into going and opening the door so she could steal my spot on the couch. Now I am going to make sure I put her out every time she rings it so she won't try to trick me.I think some dogs it may take a bit longer to learn how to use. I think if my other dog needed it he would have taken longer. But my new dog is pretty sharp, a shepherd mix (potcake).

Perfect for small dogs to reach any door!

If you are thinking of teaching your dog (or new puppy) to ring a bell to go outside, these are a must have. These easily hang from any door and are reachable by any size dog - our puppies were only 3 lbs when we started training them (now 10 lbs), and they were able to nose / paw at them to signal that they wanted to go outside. In fact, they like using it to signal the water bowl is empty, that they are hungry, that there is a bird outside that they want to bark at - it is a pretty neat communication tool! You can look it up on youtube as to how to teach a dog to ring a bell - it just takes some patience. You hold the bells in front of them, tell them bell, and wait for them to bonk it, whatever method they prefer. The first bonk is the hardest - once they do it, you give them a treat, and then they will definitely repeat it. You keep treating them, and eventually they understand "bell" = ringing the bell = yummy treats. Then step 2 is hanging it on the door, and before you let them go out to potty, you tell them "bell" - make them ring the bell to go outside, and that is their treat. Once they become more potty trained, they will ring the bell proactively to go out!
