For instance, the earlier edition gives sections for Zinfandels and Syrah/Shiraz, as well as Rieslings; here those varieties are subsumed into "Other" categories. I do not invariably agree with the author's opinions I and avoid one label she recommends, for instance. You need to trust your own taste, of course. Assuming you know what general kinds of wine you like, this pocket-sized guide is wonderfully helpful. It presents wines first by type--red or white say-- then within those kinds the particular grape, e.g Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinor Noir, Merlot; Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio. The arrangement is then by ascending price, and within the price range comes the recommendations of good, better, and best selections--three wines on each double page, with illustration of the bottle and fifty words or so describing each wine. The featured wines are those most likely to be found in local wine and liquor shops. The author has found that there is uniformity of a vintage from year to year, so does not mention years; she does say that the wines she includes are meant to be enjoyed when released. I found a few surprises among brands I have seen but ignored. Who would have thought that Barefoot would be both very high quality and very low priced!? I recommend taking the book right into he shop so you can check out each available wine. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ONES PALATE SHOULD DICTATE WHAT’S GOOD; NOT ONE’S WALLET! *by K***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018* The perfect follow-up to her best selling first edition of Good, Better and Best wines. In the “must read” Introduction, Ms. Hammond stated her objectives clearly, and her caveat to let her sample, and you sip, makes sense. One should not fail to read the Introduction and the Trade Secrets, as it is easy to overlook these essential informationals that are right on. The upgrade to four-color graphics is a plus. The clever sidebars are informative and add to the educational aspect of the book. This is the perfect gift for new and experienced wine lovers as it will prove the fact that there are many darned good wines under $15.00.
