I don't have a tripod, so I can't speak to that, but all control buttons are free and clear. You do have to remove the base of this to take the battery in and out, but it's unbelieveably easy to remove. No tools are needed, you just turn the dial clockwise or counterclockwise. Takes less than 10 seconds. I was worried about that but I have to laugh now that I've got it - it's no trouble at all. As others have said, it's a bit of a pain that your camera can't sit flat with this attached, but honestly, if you need to set it down for a length of time you could just turn the dial, unscrew the base, keep the top connected and let the strap "flap open" at the bottom. When you're ready to use it again, just dial the base back in. Again, that process takes less than 10 seconds.Like others, I've modified mine a little. I turned the pad inside out because I wanted to be able to slip my hand in and out and the textured surface on the inside slowed me down a little too much for my taste. I also switched the buckle to the bottom. My husband had the good idea to slide the extra bit of strap back into the pad so nothing is left hanging and no trimming is necessary. I was worried about threading the pad and "fiddling" with it as other reviewers had, but again, I shouldn't have worried. It's easy to get it the way you like it and it securely "locks" in place easily, even if you're not sure you threaded it correctly. You'll understand better when you fiddle with it in person. If I can do it, you can do it! :) I'm all thumbs when it comes to threading straps.I also worried (I did a lot of worrying about a product that's less than $10.00!) that my hand would feel stuck and weighed down and that I'd need that hand more than I realize for other things when I'm trying to take pictures. This is, instead, super comfortable and it takes all of one second to slip it on and off (especially with the pad reversed). If I need my right hand free, I just slip the camera off, hold it in my left hand or set it down. I'd be more annoyed by a neck strap than wearing this on my hand.I also worried about how it would fit my hand shape. I'm a woman with long, thin fingers. No problem. It kind of sits across the flat of my fingers between my bottom two sets of knuckles (the ones right above the back of my hand) instead of across the back of my palm as shown in the product photo. It sounds awkward but it's really comfortable.I ALSO worried about using this on my camera without a battery pack. Some reviewers said it works even better with a battery pack, so I worried that it wouldn't fit well without one. Nope! Fits fine.Last worry: I worried that this would be flimsy because it's inexpensive. I imagined my camera falling to the ground and breaking and I'd kick myself because I "cheaped out" and bought an inexpensive strap. I see now that that was another unfounded worry. I don't think there's any way this would slip out of its configuration and if for some unbelieveable reason it did, you would feel it loosening and have time to stop the fall. You'll understand what I mean if/when you have this on your hand. And there's definitely no way the nylon strap would tear or break. The only way it's coming apart is if you'd saw through it with scissors and even then it'd take a while. You'll see for yourself - the nylon is thick and very sturdy.If you're curious about wrist straps, this one is a no-brainer for less than ten dollars. It's an absolute steal. Quit worrying like I did and just get it! :) You'll love it if a wrist strap is for you. If not, you barely spent anything anyway, right? You won't compromise the safety of your camera while you test this out. This sturdy strap isn't going to let your camera drop. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A really good item *by S***I on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on February 23, 2010* This strap is working out really well for me. I attached it to my EOS Rebel XSI camera and have never since felt the need to take it off for any reason.Attaching the strap:-------------------The strap attaches to the camera from the right shoulder strap loop and the tripod mount on the bottom. Once attached, you can still use a shoulder strap with it. There is a loop on the plastic component which screws on to the tripod mount. You attach one end of the shoulder strap to that, and the other end to the left loop on the camera.You can still mount the whole thing on a tripod as well because the bottom component has a place for attaching the tripod. In short, it doesn't take away any of the existing attachment points which it now occupies.How the strap feels and works:-----------------------------The feel of it in my hand is really comfortable. The exterior looks like black leather and the interior has a rubbery texture so it is slip resistant.It is very effortless to hold the camera in your hand with the aid of the strap. You just have to curl your fingers around the side of the camera and the strap keeps it secure in your hand. You don't need to grip it between your fingers and your thumb as you would if you didn't have this strap. This allows you to free up your thumb firstly, and secondly it allows more dexterity on your index finger for controlling the shutter release and the wheel. Since your hand is pretty much strapped on, the iso select button is harder to reach.While the thumb becomes free to control the arrow keys and other buttons, it becomes quite easy to access all those buttons with one hand while your other hand becomes free to control the zoom/focus on the lens.I can straighten my fingers, palm facing down, and let the camera hang from the strap vertically down while being supported from the strap going around the back of my hand without fear of the camera slipping and falling at all. It is slip resistant and feels securely fastened to my hand as if it was an extension of my hand.I initially had a tendency to make the strap really tight and barely enough room to slip my hand in there and give me a snug tight fit. This in turn caused the thing to be uncomfortable as I was bending the wrist and overextending my thumb to reach the buttons. I find it much more comfortable if I keep it a little loose so that I can slip my hand easily into it and there's some room for my fingers and thumb to move, some breathing space if you will..The construction of the product doesn't feel cheap or low quality. The black leather exterior actually looks quite nice. I did have one issue with it however. The plastic component which attaches to the tripod mount has a rubber surface which comes in contact with the bottom surface of the camera. If you screw on the item to the tripod mount too tight, the rubber contact surface tends to come off and stick to the camera, which is kind of low-quality.Conclusion:-----------I think this strap is an absolute must-have. It makes the SLR very effortless to operate with only one hand. For someone who will want to carry the camera in their hand for extended periods of time, for example going for a tour of a museum/zoo etc.. this would be very helpful.You're essentially buying yourself some insurance with this strap and $10 is not really that bad on a $500+ camera. ### ⭐⭐ Works But Beware use with Tripod *by P***B on Reviewed in the United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ on May 26, 2014* I purchased the wrist strap and it offers great support and stability when using the camera hand held. It fits on the camera by large nut into the base of the camera. To fit the camera on the tripod, you attach the tripod base plate onto the hand tightened screw. This works fine when using the camera in landscape orientation but is useless for portrait orientation as the hand held screw loosens under the weight of the camera (not a large camera but a mid size DSLR - Nikon D90). Therefore to use with a tripod, the only plausible option is to undo the wrist strap from the camera base and fix the tripod base plate as normal.
