## Overview

The Trinity College AP-1230 Anglo-Style Concertina is a handcrafted, fully chromatic 30-button instrument featuring laminated walnut endplates and black fabric bellows. Designed for folk and ethnic music enthusiasts, it offers a 1.5 octave range, adjustable hand straps, and a plush carrying case, making it an ideal blend of authentic sound and portable convenience.

## Description

Trinity College Concertinas are handcrafted instruments and authentic reproductions of the instruments introduced in the early 19th century in England and Germany. Trinity College offers both of the two major types-the Anglo and the English models. The Anglo model is a "bisonoric" design-much like today's harmonica-where a different note is produced by the "push" and "pull" motion of the bellows. This type of mechanism lends itself perfectly for many styles of ethnic or "folk" dance music. In this style, the straps cover the entire hand.

Review: Good instrument for the price - I found the Trinity College 30-button concertina very satisfactory, a reasonably priced instrument that has worked well for me for over six months. The bellows are a bit stiff, and have remained stiff, which means you have to put in some effort to maintain volume control. The buttons all work correctly without sticking, and there are no issues with incorrect pitch for any of the buttons. Eventually I will probably want to purchase a more expensive model, but for the time being this instrument serves my purposes very well. For beginners I strongly recommend the Hal Leonard Anglo Concertina Method for 20- and 30-button Instruments.
Review: Came in working order - It is a well made instrument with few flaws. Some of the buttons feel off but it works just fine.

A: I am very happy with mine. The tone is beautiful and it appears to be very well made.

A: The reeds are accordion reeds. Only a few artisans make concertinas today with true concertina reeds. Expect to pay north of $3,000 US for that.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good instrument for the price

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Came in working order
*by J***H on January 2, 2020*

It is a well made instrument with few flaws. Some of the buttons feel off but it works just fine.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not perfect, but a good starter
*by Y***R on April 29, 2021*

The Good: • The instrument works just fine, definitely pleased at the use I've gotten out of it so far. Build quality isn't perfect, some parts of the body simply don't align the way they should, but it seems purely cosmetic. The Meh: • While every note works (...now, see below), they don't all have the same sound. Some of the notes sound very sharp and harsh, while others are much softer. (Think sine wave vs square wave) • The hand straps will eventually fail. The leather is simply screwed onto the frame of the instrument, and I expect it will eventually tear. • Some of the plastic buttons squeak against the wood when they're pressed, but probably fixable with simple oil • When using the air button, the air rushing in\out of the bellows is rather loud, like almost as loud as a note. • It takes quite a bit of force to open the bellows. I'd estimate 4-6lbs after you expand it more than 4 inches. • Bellows doesn't seem super airtight. I can expand the instrument in a few seconds without pressing any buttons. I can still play fine, but it seems like some of the air is wasted • Some notes require more air than others to get the reed to resonate. No issue if you take the time to learn your specific instrument The Bad: • One note was faulty upon delivery, seemed to be an issue with the reed contacting something. I solved the issue by simply blasting the note, which has (so far) permanently resolved my issue, but it could have easily been caught in QA with 15 seconds of testing.
