Review: Heavy-duty tarp that actually insulates - multi-purpose winner - This Arcturus Insulated Tarp is an absolute workhorse. I've used it for everything from ground cover while camping to emergency shelter, and it performs exceptionally well. The insulation layer actually works—you can feel the difference compared to regular tarps when used as a blanket or ground barrier. The heavy-duty construction is no joke. This isn't some flimsy emergency blanket that tears if you look at it wrong. It's thick, durable, and built to handle real outdoor use. I've dragged it across rough ground, used it in rain and wind, and it still looks great. The grommets are reinforced and haven't shown any signs of tearing out. The thermal properties make it incredibly versatile. It reflects body heat when used as a blanket, insulates from cold ground when used underneath a sleeping bag, and works great as a windbreak or shelter. Having something that serves multiple purposes is invaluable when camping or in emergency situations. The size is generous and it's surprisingly packable for how substantial it is. Reusable and washable, unlike disposable emergency blankets. Whether for camping, vehicle emergency kit, or general outdoor use, this tarp delivers. Quality product that's worth every penny.
Review: Durable survival blanket - This insulated tarp is well made, durable, and incredibly useful for camping, emergency preparedness, and outdoor activities. The material feels strong and reusable, while the thermal insulation helps provide added protection from the elements. It's lightweight enough to carry easily but rugged enough for a variety of uses. A great piece of gear to keep in a vehicle, emergency kit, or camping setup.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Reduces infrared signature, sure, but does it protect from Predators, or do I still need cool mud from a stream bed?**
A: I'm not an expert on infrared technology, but I went and dug up this comment somebody made on ModernSurvivalBlog about caveats when using "space blankets" (which is what the back of this survival blanket is made of) to hide from a Predator drone. Basically, there are THREE kinds of technology you need to hide from ... the camera ... the infrared (heat seeking) camera ... and something called the "FLIR system" which measures how the heat is emitted. Here's the comment from ModernSurvivalBlog ... it should give you someplace else to dig for more high-level information.
*************************
Don’t underestimate the capability of FLIR systems. While people have been lead to understand these as detecting differences in temperature, that is not technically correct. They detect the emission of heat from an object and create images from the differences in heat emissions. There are actually two factors to the IR emission from an object: the object’s temperature AND the coefficient of emissivity for the object. Color, texture, surface material and more cause variations in the emissivity for something. If this was not the case, then IR pictures of say the woods would just be one solid image — but you have all seen IR pictures or videos and indeed you can discern trees, roads, leaves, out buildings, fences, utility poles etc. How can that be when all those items are at the exact same temperature at night? They all release differing amounts of IR based upon differing emissivity for those. Even if the outside temp is exactly 98.6 degrees F you can still be seen on FLIR because your clothing, skin, hair etc will likely stand out against trees and leaves because of different emissions of IR heat. Hiding under a space blanket or silvered tarp may indeed shield detection of a person beneath it, but the poncho/tarp/blanket will quite likely stand out from it’s surroundings. It actually needs an emissivity camo pattern to blend into the woods.

**Q: How reusable is this?**
A: I wrote a review of this three months ago, stating that it seemed strong and durable, but NOT SO! Just last month it ripped to shreds under a strong wind, so for the long term, not durable at all, hence hardly reusable.

**Q: If I were to use this as a ground barrier when camping, is the reflective side noisy that would make it hard to sleep on?**
A: It's a little noisy when wrapping it around your body, but I think if it were flat on the ground it would make little to no noise. I would give you a more definitive answer, but we just got ours and haven't had the chance to use it as a ground barrier yet.

**Q: Has anyone compared this to the Space all weather blanket? I'm also curious to how durable the reflective side is?**
A: The reflective side is about as durable as a traditional tarp. Strong enough to withstand normal wear and tear if you're walking on it at camp but liable to tears if subjected to sharp object. Thanks!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lightweight, Versatile, and Essential for Outdoor Adventures
*by R***N on October 17, 2024*

The Arcturus Heavy Duty Survival Blanket is an absolute must-have for anyone who enjoys camping, hiking, or needs a reliable emergency blanket. I was impressed with how well it performed during our recent camping trip, and it's become one of our favorite pieces of gear. The Mylar reflective side is perfect for reflecting heat or creating a radiant barrier, which is especially useful when you need to keep warm or signal for help in an emergency. The polypropylene side adds durability, making it great for use as a ground tarp, shelter, or even as a waterproof blanket. We've used it as a windbreak around our campfire on windy days, and it worked beautifully to keep the warmth in while blocking the cold wind. At 60" x 82", this blanket is a great size for all kinds of uses, whether you're setting up a shelter or laying it out as a ground cover. Despite its size, it's incredibly lightweight at just under 1 pound, and it packs down small into its carry bag for easy transport. We were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was for our 11-year-old to set up and take down the shelter. The reinforced grommets are another great feature. They make it simple to hang or secure the blanket, and the grommets are strong enough to withstand the tension when tied down. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the design and durability of this blanket. Whether you're using it as an emergency shelter, a tarp, or just keeping it in your car for unexpected situations, this blanket is super versatile. It's also waterproof, which makes it useful in all weather conditions. It’s incredibly strong, durable, and packs down light, making it an easy addition to your outdoor gear or emergency kit. Overall, the Arcturus Heavy Duty Survival Blanket is a fantastic, multi-purpose product that holds up to its claims. Whether you're in the woods or need it for emergency preparedness, this blanket is a reliable and practical tool. Highly recommended!
