Nothing against my camp axe but it's not designed for that, primarily. I bought this splitting maul and my world got much more pleasant. It's a great maul and well made. The edge was great from the factory and not in need of any conditioning.You should not expect a hair thin, razor sharp edge on this tool. A maul works because of it's shape and weight. It's designed as a wedge that forces the wood apart as it moves through the wood. It is not designed to slice the wood in half with a razor edge. Also, axe edges are always more blunt than knife edges and may appear "Dull". If they weren't, they edges would chip and roll every time you used them.Don't be discouraged by another review that stated he / she needed to pay someone to sharpen the axe. I'd be more than willing to bet that person has no idea how to use a splitting maul and the maul was perfectly functional when it was purchased.
