I used a sponge brush to apply it and I have to apply 3-6 layers per side. I did 3 doors, all fiberglass.. the wiping method doesn’t work on these doors but in the end I love them and I kind of wish I could have used it on the garage door vs purchasing a “wood look” one. Is it a true red color or does it look like a wooden finish?** A: It's a blue based red tone. Old masters crimson fire is a bright, true red. I frequently mix the two to adjust either way. For instance , if I'd like a dark, dark cherry tone, that shows red in the light, I use more burgundy. If I want to see a red tone, but would like a blue base, I use crimson fire , add old burgundy , " to taste". Simply put: buy both **Q: If I applied this to a black painted metal garage door what would the resulting color be?** A: I am sorry I don't know I have only used this on wood with very good results.
