## Overview

Seachem Gray Coast is a premium, all-natural calcite substrate designed for marine, reef, and tropical aquariums. Perfect for all life stages, this dry substrate simplifies setup and maintenance for aquarium enthusiasts.

## Description

Product Description Gray coast calcite is an all natural calcite substrate for all types of marine, reef and tropical aquaria. Its chemical composition will assist in stabilizing calcium and alkalinity while preventing large pH declines. Simply rinse before use to remove any residual dust. Unlike competing “wet” gravels, Gray coast is sold dry: This bag contains 35% more gravel than a bag of wet gravel of equal weight. These “wet” gravels are marketed to give one the impression that they contain living, microscopic animals when in fact they only contain common bacteria. Dry or wet, There are bacteria on every substrate. If one is concerned with shortening the aquarium cycle time for a new system, then the use of a product designed for that particular purpose would be more appropriate (such as seachem’s stability) Directions Simply rinse before use to remove any residual dust. When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing GrayCoast™ substrate bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the gravel bed. Initial cloudiness is normal. To remove cloudiness, use mechanical filtration (such as filter floss). Use Clarity™ to accelerate clearing.

Review: Nice - Pretty
Review: Most Underrated Substrate for Reef - Love this substrate. I actually like the grey color better than a true black. Under blue lights it still looks 'black' and provides excellent color contrast and pop to corals and fish, all while making the tank feel brighter versus a true black sand (I previously used black diamond blasting sand). One thing to note is that there is a broad range of particle sizes, all the way from fine dust to a few chunks up to ~8mm across. It does need to be rinsed thoroughly to remove the fines. The more you stir it and rinse it, the less particulates will remain in the tank. IMO it's worth it for this really unique substrate. I have a blue star leopard wrasse that is perfectly happy sleeping in this substrate. I also have a small Two Spot sand sifting goby that seems to be doing well. He likes to pick up and move around the larger pieces, then sift through the finer stuff underneath. There aren't any sharp edges on this substrate, it is very smooth.
