I purchased this device on the recommendation of a friend, to help with ironing dark cotton, wool, and silk clothes. Ironing these with a traditional iron is difficult due to scorching, Scorching leaves shiny stains on the fabric, most often along seams, which are difficult or impossible to remove with washing. Previously I used a damp cloth between the iron and garment to prevent scorching, but this was a wet and time-consuming process. Professional dry cleaners and hotels utilize steamers to avoid this problem, but that is neither practical nor cost-effective for most of us. This devices utilizes a very smooth non-stick surface, similar to a better frying pan, to prevent scorching. The attachment method (spring) requires that your iron's sole plate have a some type of lip or ridge at the bottom. Works very well, protects all fabric types from burns, sticking to iron, etc. What is nice is you can use this with a low cost iron (it will not matter what type of coating is on the iron's sole plate) and get the results of a much higher priced iron.

**Q: Can you give us dimensions?  Our iron is a Silverstar model ES-85 AF Steam Iron; it measures approx 9" from bottom to tip.**
A: The top hat is 9 1/2 in from tip to back. My ironing surface is about 7in. The top hat has a spring that makes it fit tightly even on my iron. I do a lot of  hot starching and this has saved me a great deal of aggravation.

**Q: I am so confused due to the comments. Is this for the sole plate or a trim catcher?**
A: This a plate that fits on a  iron.  It keeps dark fabrics from shiny spots caused by a hot iron.

**Q: How wide and long is it?**
A: I don't know how wide or long it is but it fits every stand iron I have bought.

**Q: Does the iron have to be a particular shape for the iron shoe to fasten properly?**
A: The iron shoe plate fits multiple sizes of irons. The iron shoe has an adjustable spring that attaches it to iron and holds it securely.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic, once you get it on

I initially thought I would need to return this before I ever got a chance to use it. The instructions say to slip the spring over the base of the iron behind the handle. With the design of my iron, this was not possible. But, with a simple modification it works great. I just needed a pair of pliers to bend the wire connecting the spring so that I could unfasten it and slip it beneath thr handle. A VERY easy fix that took about thirty seconds to complete. Once I have it in place, it works exactly as described. It protects the fabric, so even when ironing wool on the highest heat setting I get no shine or any issues whatsoever. The only tiny bit of shine on anything was when I forgot to turn it down and used it on rayon on high heat. And even that still didn't damage the fabric. If this were designed with a detachable spring, it would be a five star review. I wish it were easier to remove for cleaning, and that I didn't have to modify it to make it work. But it truly was an easy modification, so overall I'd call this a minir complaint once I got it worked out.
