It fits in a standard series 31 marine battery box. I installed it and hooked it up to an AGM charger and too it out the next day for an overnight meteor watching trip. I ran the anchor, cabin, and nav lights for several hours. We also ran the GPS overnight with an anchor alarm on. After a 12 hour trip it started the 15 HP motor vigorously and provided power all the way back to the dock. When it was hooked back on the charger I found it still had %20 capacity left. I am impressed with this and its ability to deliver a full 12V high amp current even at a low charge. I plan on purchasing another one soon to be able to do multi day trips without hitting shore. I use these batteries along with a 1500W pure sine wave inverter as a back up for the occasional power failures that happen here in the Northeast US. I purchased one in November 2012, yes, 2012, and another in 2019. They normally run in parallel and provide 12 V @ 250AH nominal to the inverter. However, about once a year I separate them and load test them separately due to the large difference in their age. At a 20 hour rate, they both met or were close to spec when new, 120-128ah each. Because the power failures here are very intermittent this is largely a float application. They only get cycled about 10-15 times per year so I can’t speak to cycle life. But the float life has been great. in my most recent test in May 2022, the older battery comes in at around 101 amp hours and the newer one at 122AH. Getting 80% of new capacity out of a 10 year battery is more than I expected. I have other UPS units in the house that use 9AH AGM batteries, and I have to replace those every three or four years. While the newer LiFePO4 batteries have many advantages over lead acid, they are still significantly more expensive than AGM. and lead acid batteries can be easily recycled whereas lithium can’t. While I would not recommend cycling lead acid to 100% DOD if you’re cycling them frequently, I have cycled mine to 100% DOD at least 150 cycles over 10 years and they’re holding up fine. I think lead acid can still be competitive in a float application like mine. Lithium is more cost effective for frequently cycled applications. Vmaxtanks batteries are more expensive than some of the other AGM brands, but I believe the long-term performance demonstrates that they are worth the money. If not, what accessory should I get to make it stop charging?** A: The battery doesn't have an internal mechanism to stop the inflow of charging power. I use a Schumacher 100 Amp digital (smart) charger for charging on the grid and a Sunforce 30Amp digital charge controller for off grid (solar) charging. They charge at a high rate when the batteries are low and slow to a trickle when maintenance level is reached. My system has 4 ea. 125AHr Vmaxtanks. **Q: How long at max draw (125 amps an hour) does it take for this battery to rundown to the 50% level with no charge input** A: Amp hours are a measure of power. Theoretically, the battery should provide 125 amps for one hour at the stated 12 volts. However, at this high a current, I wouldn't count on it. More realistically, the battery should provide 10 amps at 12 volts for 12.5 hours or 20 amps for 6.25 hours...and so on and so forth. My experience is limited because I use them (two of them) along with an inverter to run a refrigerator and a few other pieces of equipment in a back up mode. They have done great when I've needed them! **Q: What is the recommended depth of discharge for this battery?** A: Not sure I just have it hooked up to my solar panels and it never past 12.3v **Q: just charge to 100%. Volt meter now shows that it is loosing a charge...down 15% in three minutes and continuing to slide. I bought 6 of these batteries in July of 2012 , A Morningstar TS-MPPT-45 controller and two 280 watt solar panels . 4 years later these batteries are still going strong. I use them in the summer time to power 4 Dell severs and 3 NAS devices for 4 hours each day and they perform flawlessly . Even after the charge controller had an issue and the batteries dipped to 11.00v on some days and and also were overcharged at to 15.5v these batteries perform well and are as good as new. Morningstar are also awesome and replaced the faulty controller and all is well . However If i had to do it again Id shell out a few more bucks and get the TS-MPPT60 as it has the built in Ethernet . Being able to get the email alerts and be able to monitor charge state over the internet is priceless.
